Fire Power

Maybe its because I haven't slept well, or at all. Maybe I'm hungry. Maybe I'm tired of arguing rulings and mechanics with this particular individual. But I need clarification, or at least some reasoning or proof on this one.

See, I always took it as a given that the effect of Backfire applied to Ultimate Baseball Kid. You launch a FIRE monster with UBK and Backfire on the field, you deal 1000 points damage. But now I've heard the argument, "Ultimate Baseball Kid's text says 'send a monster' and Backfire applies only when FIRE monsters are destroyed, so you don't get the effect."

I still don't believe it, but I'm finding I'd like someone to say "yes, your right" or "no, it doesn't apply."

Oh man, I hate to say this Sprite....but their right.

"Send", "tribute" and "destroy" are all different ways of sending a card to the Graveyard. If an effect asks you to send it, it won't trigger Backfire's effect.

Sending a monster to the graveyard and destroying a monster are two entirely different things when you're looking to trigger effects. Ultimate Baseball Kid's effect is sending a monster as a cost to inflict damage to your opponent. No destroying is involved in this process and hence won't actitvate Backfire's effect.

Hopefully this clears it up as much as you need.
