Fusion subs & De-Fusion

Guess I'll just give the example as it's the easiest way to explain:

I have in my hand:
Buster Blader
King of the Swamp
Polymerization
De-Fusion

I have in my Graveyard:
Dark Magician
Versago the Destroyer

I have on my field:
NOTHING (I stink at this game) ;)

During my turn, I play Polymerization and send Buster Blader and King of the Swamp to the graveyard and special summon Dark Paladin from my fusion deck. After entering my battle phase, and attacking with DP, I activate De-Fusion (while still in the battle phase).

The question: which monsters can I bring back to the field with De-Fusion?

(1) Buster Blader and King of the Swamp because they were the original two monsters I used
(2) Buster Blader and Dark Magician because those are the two monsters written on Dark Paladin
(3) Dark Magician and King of the Swamp because DM and KotS can be fused into Dark Paladin
(4) either BB/DM and Versago the Destroyer same as (3)

Not sure exactly how this would work - all of the above? none of the above? some of the above?

My answer is 1 based on that's what you used to fuse. Just think of it this way, if you didn't have that DM in the graveyard, you would only be able to bring those to back to begin with.

So my answer is the first choice... I feel like I'm taking level certification test again, ;).

Right, the netrep ruling 1) states "The Fusion-Material monsters used for the fusion that is targeted by "De-Fusion" must be in the controller of "De-Fusion"'s Graveyard if the controller of "De-Fusion" wishes to Special Summon them."

To play a little bit of devil's advocate here (and because this seems to make more sense), I would have said (2) Buster Blader and Dark Magician. The way I'm reading the De-Fusion card, the fusion material monsters are still what is printed on the original Fusion card.

Semi-related to this, there's a ruling that says if the fusion wasn't properly summoned and you De-Fusion it, the Fusion monster is sent back to the Fusion deck, but you can't special summon the Fusion Material monsters to the field. I'd really like to know the reasoning behind this since the part about special summoning the Fusion Material monsters only appears to be dependant upon if the appropriate monsters are in the graveyard regardless how the Fusion monster was brought to the field.

The second part is easily explained by invalidating the first part.

I believe that the first part USED to be correct in America, but was synced with the Japan ruling.

I use the great dark paladin myself, to what I understand about the cards in question:

if you used king of the swamp polymerization and buster blader for fusion. If you have defusion and dark magician is in your graveyard I would say you can bring dark magician back and buster blader back. Why? because defusion defuses the fusion monster seperating it back into the monsters used to fuse the monster. But, as long as the monsters are in the graveyard.

My version a little bit more deeper. let's say I have goddess of the third eye in my graveyard, I also have dark magician and buster blader. I have defusion on the field, and I call of the haunted goddess of the third eye. I tribute goddess for dark paladin (for support of this action go to upperdeckentertainment.com/yugioh "specific card ruling on dark paldin for use of goddess of the third eye". Or just ask here, but anyway if I play defusion they both come back. If you fused king of swamp and buster blader and dark magician is in your grave you dont want to keep paladin so you play defusion you can't bring back king of the swamp. Why? because he is used as a substitue for "fusion". You can bring back dark magician and buster blader though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on the king. But, I think you can bring back goddess of the third eye. But anyway you can bring back dark magician if he was in your grave!

De-Fusion will Special Summon the monsters used in the Fusion Summon.

eg. if you Special Summoned TER by Magical Scientist's effect, and play De-Fusion on it, no monsters will be Special Summoned, since:
1. There was no Fusion Summon
2. Thus no monsters were used

So it's: (1) Buster Blader and King of the Swamp because they were the original two monsters I used

but what if both of the monsters needed for the proper requirements for defusion are in the graveyard? Even if I didn't fuse them, I got the fusion monster out but I want to seperate him....

Unfortunately, De-Fusion does not work that way.

You're only allowed to pull back the monsters used for the fusion from the Graveyard.

So if you have 2 copies of Dark Magician in the Graveyard and you want to Special Summon BLS-EotB, make sure you are clear that you are not removing the Dark Magician you used for the Fusion in case you wish to De-Fuse later...
