Gradius' Option

Bah humbug! I still say it should follow the existing templating, regardless of what their original intention was.
I do believe though that you would have to at least Special Summon it once from Hand properly first as Cropz suggested, to even have the capability to Special Summon it from the Graveyard. So in that sense it is like the Special Summon only monsters.

But the selection of a Gradius must always be done everytime.

I'm still bah humbug-ing it because I don't see where that is written. The only thing I see is the odd ball removed from play ruling, which have a tendency to be strange to begin with. But why would the summon from the hand work the same way as Special Summon Only, but then suddenly not work that way when Special Summoned form the Graveyard. That's an enormous strecth of the ruling.

I personally don't care about whether the current rulings state it or not, frankly 75% of the time i don't even look at them because they are so incomplete.

This is how it's always been ruled, and i believe the Netrepâ„¢ Files support it as well. It's really common sense since we know that Gradius' Option cannot exist without a real Gradius face-up, and must mimic one of them.

There is only one ruling that that seems odd ot me:

"[Re: Skill Drain] The ATK and DEF of "Gradius' Option", the ATK of "Maju Garzett", and similar monsters is 0 while "Skill Drain" is active, and is not restored even if "Skill Drain" is destroyed."

As far as i can see, these are Continuous Effects, now if they want the effects to dissappear that fine i can see that, but then Gradius' Option should be destroyed as the link was cut, or you should select a new one.

Wouldn't it be just as Fusilier Dragon... you can't "restore" stats.

Perhaps I came into the game late. After Gradius' Option was printed. But old Netrepâ„¢ files notwithstanding, the current trend since the rulings revisions was to attempt to smooth out some if the inconsistancy among similar type card effects. If Gradius' Option is another one of these excetions to the rule, then I wold like to see it addressed on the Judges List. At least with Ultimate Offering's old text, the old Bottomless Trap Hole vs Lava Golem ruling and a handful of other rulings were correct play was not evident in their text, there was always a message to point back to show how Konami wanted it to be played. I'm not seeing that here. I dont see anything that says a Gradius' Option can't exist on the field without a Gradius to select. I see a Special Summoning condition, a very specific ruling regarding removal from play and nothing more.

It's not the stats so much as the "link" being broken, as the effect is essentially gone.

Of course they could just say that the link is still there but you don't recieve any boost, which sounds...odd...

It all chalks up to this being a gimic character, and sometimes things don't quite fit.

Since cards are considered an unknown face-down by the "Game", wouldn't it only make sense that flipping a Gradius face-down would be akin to "the selected 'Gradius' [being] removed from the field" and thereby, not real evidence that if it's Special Summoned outside its own effect that it would have to be detroyed?
