if i have a cyber dragon equipped with heavy mech support platform and i attack my opponents mobius and he responds to the attack with ring of destruction,,,, what happens? heavy mech should protect cyber dragon from ring (and hm would be destroyed )- but then what...does ring fail since it did not destroy the targeted monster? and does the attack continue?or is there a replay?

Ring of Destruction tries to destroy Cyber Dragon (presumably). Heavy Mech Support Platform is destroyed instead, and Ring of Destruction inflicts 0 damage as Effect Damage to both players (because Cyber Dragon was not destroyed, and Ring of Destruction inflicts damage according to "the destroyed card's ATK").
Cyber Dragon lives, and is still attacking Mobius the Frost Monarch. It does so, but is destroyed, and the controller of Cyber Dragon loses 300 Life Points as Battle Damage.
There is no replay.

Per Netrep:
If a monster equipped with "Heavy Mech Support Platform" is targeted by "Ring of Destruction", then "Heavy Mech Support Platform" is destroyed instead of the equipped monster, and the damage inflicted to both players by "Ring of Destruction" is 0 (because the monster targeted by "Ring of Destruction" was not destroyed by it).
I believe the attack would continue since it was not negated and you would continue into damage calculation where Cyber Dragon would be destroyed.
