help with soul exchange

i've beeen thinking about using soul exchange for a while
but me and my friends can't decide if i need a monster on my
of the field to us it.

BUT I would also choose to believe that the card text is in error as stated versus what the intent and rulings are regarding this card. I always have and will continue to follow what UDE releases as far as rulings go but I would also like to see a more concise card text that reflects accurately what the intention of the card is intended to be.

This means that the card text is not written in a specific, mathematical style designed to avoid all questions of doubt and solve as many rules situations as possible. It means that the card text is written to sound cool to younger people.

This means that the card text is not always LITERALLY, word-for-word, consistent with the actual functioning of the card.

Strangely enough (or perhaps not so strangely enough) Kevin's exposition on card text was actually written in response to a question on none other than Soul Exchange. Ironic, hey?

Having read Kevin's article regarding card text as translated from Japanese makes more sense to me as to why the text is misinterpreted into English. " If you would tribute a monster on your side of the field" (card text) and "tribute a monster" (card intent) are two VERY different things but I understand that the text of Soul Exchange should read "tribute a monster" as being the intent of the card rather than the actual card text, which doesn't reflect the intent of the card. Translations being what they are, I would abide by the intent of the card being true as opposed to the literal text of the card.
I rather enjoyed this Exchange of ideas and interpretations.

If you would play a game where the card text is easy to follow and templating is used to allow maximum understanding of the game play, you may borrow your friends VS deck.
