Lately people have been marking their cards around here. Mainly just coloring the pictures in and stuff like that. It's really hard to see what the card is unless you look closely. I would over look this at a local tourney but then it sends the wrong message. Whats the cut off limit here. Personally I think signed cards are fine. Anything more may be crossing the line.

If it's hard to read, then it would fall under the category of "illegal" cards, because it can be used to stall the game(since you specifically said you had to look at the card closely), to let time run out. At least that's my opinion. At a Tourney, it's illegal to have marked cards in any way. I assume that it's up to the Head judge to determine, so it's your call really.

Players may not apply decorations to a card that obscure a significant portion of the card's image or text. This includes significant art modification or art replacement.

Thats the official policy on this. I have seen cards that have had the entire picture covered and the judges let it go. Shouldn't we start enforcing this rule better.

My own personal opinion? If, as a judge, you can't walk by and at a glance know what the card is, then it's taking time out of what your duties should be to figure it out and it's too much.

What is incredibly stupid is, a lot of these same players complain about the fact that their original print cards are being devalued by "Reprints", yet they dont mind coloring a 1st Edition Cyber Dragon or Zaborg the Thunder Monarch...

Go figure.
