If this card is discarded from the hand to the Graveyard by a card effect, Special Summon this card to your side of the field. If this card is discarded from the hand to the Graveyard by your opponent's card effect, your opponent selects 2 cards in their hand, and returns them to the bottom of their Deck in any order.

"¢ "Sillva, Warlord of Dark World" must be Special Summoned to resolve the second part of his effect. If you cannot Summon him because you activated "Scapegoat" that turn, or your Monster Card Zones are full, then the second part of his effect does not resolve.

I'm sitting here tinkering with the Dark Worlders, and I came upon this Sillva ruling. Is this a mistake on UDE's part or am I a complete moron? What part of Sillva's second effect requires it to be Special Summoned?

Should the text read something like this:

If this card is discarded from the hand to the Graveyard by a card effect, Special Summon this card to your side of the field. Then, if this card was discarded from the hand to the Graveyard by your opponent's card effect, your opponent selects 2 cards in their hand, and returns them to the bottom of their Deck in any order.

Do tell. I'm at a complete loss here. Be nice, it's late :D

Best I understand it is if the intial effect is triggered by an opponent's card effect then you must complete that effect before you move on to the next. Two resoluitons within a single effect resolution. But only if an opponent triggers it.

Nah bro your right.

Oviously this is one of plenty shady rulings beign given out by UDE.

No where in the text does it say that it must be special summoned to get its effect.

But, im checking over at DMcomet's Rules section and their stating the same thing. Big reason for this is that its suppose to be 1 effect not 2.

so basically the effect is:
"when this card is discarded from your hand special summon this card. if this card was discarded by an opponents card effect special summon this card AND your opponent selects 2 cards in their hand, and returns them to the bottom of their Deck in any order."

so it is treated as 1 single effect, when 1 part is negated or cant follow through then the whole thing wont follow through.

its the way the card was written that leads to a bit of confusion.

even the Fantranslation by DMcomet is similar to it.

When this card is discard into Graveyard from hand by effect of another card, special summon this card to your field. If this card is discarded by effect of opponent's card, your opponent also choose 2 cards in his/her hand and put them onto the bottom of his/her deck in any order.

again, I belive is how they wrote up the card that leads to confusion.

they should really start fixing it up. Like know exactly what the card does in the OCG then make a working Translation for the TCG.

like this, it could have easily been fixed by adding a few words and not just blow out a ruling on us all odd ball.

Geez Louise. Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water, too!

Thanks a ton guys. I think I get it now :D Just one of those things. Kinda like the original The Legendary Fisherman effect text. That o-so-critical little "and" that shouldn't have been there, and thankfully isn't any more.

I'm in total agreement on the lack of effect text credibility from the powers that be. (You should see some of the stuff we have to fix in the data!)

Hey DJ ... how about an "errata that makes sense" for Goldd and Sillva?

well i thought because the 2nd effect only occurs right after the monster is summoned, therefore bottomless traphole cannot be activated, due to incorrect timing.

Although it does not say when the 2nd effect occurs, but assuming it occurs after the summoning, wouldnt it make sense?

yea i guess the main issue here is the mention of the timing of when the opp's discarding effect occurs
