LEVEL UP & ARMED DRAGON LV 10

OK I need some help here people. I was at a local turny and I overheard to guys discussing ARMED DRAGON LV 10 and LEVEL UP. One guy said that you could use LEVEL UP to bring out ARMED DRAGON LV 10 and the other guy said you could not. They asked the Judge and he said they could. Was he right???

I would say, No. Level Up states:

Text
Send 1 face-up monster on your side of the field that has "LV" in its card name to the Graveyard to activate this card. Special Summon the monster that is written in the card text of that monster from your hand or Deck, ignoring the Summoning conditions.

AD LV7 does not list AD LV10 in it's text. AD LV7 can be summoned by AD LV5 because it's card text specifically mentions AD LV7, but LV7 makes no mention of LV10.

You're welcome. Now remember, this is just my take on this. There are many YGO judges floating around here, so you may want to check back later to make sure they are not correcting me.

But according to the published rulings, it looks correct.

I would have to agree with you dingo... if the text of the monster doesnt mention that monster you cannot use level up to summon it out...... Armed Dragon Lv 10 , unfortunately, must get out there the hard way...... by the means stated on that particular card....

I agree with you guys I just wish I could find that judge and correct him.

LOL! I know the feeling. Heck, I have wanted to do that to sports officials before.


(Although my wife did confront hockey refree Paul Stewart at a bar ATM one night after a Coyotes game. She was not happy with his officiating. Coolest thing is he came over to our table and chatted for about 10min afterwards.)

While we are on the subject of Qs and As. Can you use Dragons Hand mirror to get out the Five god dragon?

I would have to say, No to this also. The current translations state that he can only be Fusion Summoned (Fusion Nomi?). Dargon's Mirror states it Special Summons the monster.


I think it would be a bit much if you could trot him out just by dumping a bunch of Dragon's to the GY and Mirroring them. Just for the sake of game balance.

You'lll be wanting to re-read the card, then. The last line of Dragon's Mirror is: "(This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon)."

I don't know why they bother saying that instead of simply "Fusion Summon that Fusion Monster from your Fusion etc.".

Interesting point to make, though, is that Polymerization makes no mention of Fusion Summoning anything. It just Special Summons the monster. It seems only convention makes it the "original" Fusing card.

Just for the sake of completeness, in regards to the original post and not the way off topic it has become (not to mention, cross overed into 2 different threads as well, enough already.)

Since Armed Dragon LV10 mentions Armed Dragon LV7 in its text, you can use Level Up!! on Armed Dragon LV10 to Special Summon Armed Dragon LV7 from your hand or deck.

Armed Dragon LV10 can ONLY be Special Summoned by its card text, which states that you must Tribute a Armed Dragon LV7 (even though he can be summoned by Level Modulation if you do summon him correctly). That does not mean by using the effect of Level Up!.

Hmmm- bit of an extreme method of deck thinning there. But why do things the easy way? After all, we are original thinkers here :p
