i'm sure you are all aware of light and darkness dragon,
it is obviously very broken, no card has ever had this sort of negation power before. i have allready ordered one. i am currently running perfect circle, and i think i might side-deck it, cos cmon, imagine the hurt this can do to decks like burn, crystal beast, perfect circle, heck just about every deck and even though its two tributes i'm sure i can get it out easily enough (malicious, treeborn, cyber, brain control etc). i dont think its worth basing a deck around, but a random one could really be harsh.
just wondering what your thoughts on this card in the current format are
let me know what you think :)
just incase you dont know. http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Light_and_Darkness_Dragon

My thoughts are that it's going to cause many a discussion on the Rules Questions boards and that we'll not get any definitive answers right away.

Someone's going to have to explain why this card is so majorly broken. All I can see is a 2-Tribute monster that can't be Special Summoned, an effect whereby it can be defeated by a Monarch if used once (and can be used a total of 4 times, if it survives that long), and the Special Summon effect afterwards.

The negation effect works against the user too. It will often be useful to spend a Rush Recklessly (or something) to weaken Light and Darkness Dragon, and then run over it with a Monarch or Jinzo (popular monsters, I believe). Your opponent can't use any cards to defend themselves, because it'll be negated too.

Then the Special Summoning of a monster from your Graveyard is mandatory (as I read it). And it means wiping every card (not just monsters) you control, just to get something like Kaiser Sea Horse or a potentially bad monster. Okay, you may not lose many Spells and Traps, because having them out with Light and Darkness Dragon there is a bit silly, but there's still your monsters.

So go on, how is this card amazingly fantastic and broken, and in no way simply overhyped? It looks pretty balanced to me.

Obviously one of the best part is that one can bring out a card named "Destiny Hero Disk Commander" with the last effect of Light and Darkness Dragon, not to mention Destiny Heroes are among the best Tribute fodder-providers in the game already.

Light and Darkness Dragon is neither indestructible nor indefensible. Chaining is the key here, since the effect the the Dragon cannot be activated multiple times in the chain. 2 Bottomless and the Dragon is gone; but similarly a Book of Moon can essentially "restart" the Dragon with the help of any card that starts a chain.

But still, I do not think it is THAT broken.

Man I am so PO'd right now. As soon as I saw this card was available in the Yugioh GX manga I rushed out to get a couple of copies (One for decking and one for binder/trade) I grabbed the first two I found and paid for them, went out to my car opened them up and bam, Nothing.

The envelopes that were supposed to have the cards int hem were empty.

I go back in and tell the clerk.

"Sorry, No returns on comic books." is what I get back.

I ask to speak to a manager and I get the same response with the added insult of "You could have just taken them out and decided to return the books."

So not only can't I return the books I bought 2 minutes ago (Yeah I can read fast but not that damn fast) but now I'm a thief.

I am so freaking pissed right now.

Does anyone know if Viz can replace the cards? I really want at least ONE of these things. I mean the Manga's good and all but the cards were the major selling point.

yeah - i'm with you pretty much on the balanced...how is it run in ocg? i was thinking a lot of "counter " support and or BoM, interdimensional matter tansporter and such to back him up or re set him...should be interesting to see how they run....

and phantom... we went to books a million to get the gx mangas for the boys and noticed several were not wrapped in plastic.. and of course no L&DD in the sleeves - so be warned if the comic/manga is not in the plastic wrapper check te card sleeve before buying....

I bought three of the mangas the other day, and one of them had the card partially melted into the binding. Luckily they allowed me a refund, but unfortunately they didn't have anymore left in stock. Now it will be a while before I can find another place that has them.

I put in an order for one from Barnes & Nobel and they saaid I won't get it until december 9th.

I highly doubt it's going to have the card in it. :blue:

Yeah, phantom, I went to my local B. Dalton's and they had 2 out of wraps, all cards gone. Then I noticed 2 vol. 16 and 1 vol. 1 of the other Mangas that had cards, and all of them were gone. I showed them to the clerk, admonishing them to keep such things behind the counter, but to no avail. I told them that no one would buy them, but they didn't seem to care. (I asked God to smite the theif (but my wife made me put in a caviat they if they returned them they should not be smitten. She knows not the value of yuGiOh! cards.)

As for LaDD himself, he has been taking quite a beating in the rules.....

One Spirit Monster attempting to return, or Majestic Mech, trying to destroy himself and LaDD gets depleted trying to stop them over and over during the same end phase. I suppose it would be the same for Infernal Dragon's effect. Yeah, he's nerfed a bit.

The real power from L&DD is the combination of both effects. When you play L&DD, you rarely, if ever, have any other cards out on your side of the field, so the effect of destroying your whole field when it's destroyed is very minimal. No matter what, unless your opponent wastes resources to lower the ATK/DEF of the dragon, it'll sit at 2800 ATK, which nothing commonly played will beat on its own, or it'll take between 2-3 cards/effects to lower it to where it's managable to deal with, and THEN, even when it gets taken care of, here comes a special summon, which is typically Jinzo, Disk Commander, or even something like Majestic Mech - Goryu. The only really commonly played counter card to it is Treeborn Frog, which'll have to be in the opponent's graveyard, so it can completely weaken it in one standby phase, but then you'll still have to deal with what card is special summoned back. Not impossible by any means, but difficult nonetheless. It does make your opponent commit cards to getting rid of it, which is a huge advantage, especially if you get to draw two more when it's destroyed, or get a bigger beast like Jinzo or Goryu out. Even when chaining a card to get rid of it, it takes more than one card, and that's where the card becomes good, anything to make your opponent run out of their resources is a huge plus. I've had a lot of experiences playing against and with this decktype on the DS WC2007 game, and it's very, very difficult to get around without committing too many resources.

Man, Viz is next to impossible to get ahold of. THere's no direct line to them through Email OR Phone and Snail Mail would take forever this time of year.

Just to let you guys know, I just came from Walmart and they had a Light and Darkness box. It comes with Light and Darkness Dragon and two packs of Dark Revelations Vol. 4. All for $9.97!

3 words; not so great

With a simple and common combo, this card can be splattered all over the wall, and here is especially how i like to do so;
___

Once upon a single turn...

Standby Phase: Treeborn comes back, LaDD negates, Treeborn re-activates as it is still the standby phase (chain repeats 5x over untill Treeborn stays on the field as LaDD has no more attack to offer)

Main Phase: Tribute Treeborn, summon Raiza, Top-deck LaDD... and voila, ur opponent has a dead draw next turn
___

This method can even be simplified;

Main Phase: tribute <insert monster here>, summon <insert monarch here>, LaDD negates <insert monarch here>'s effect and LaDD's atk goes 2800 >> 2300

Battle Phase: boom, LaDD effect activates, <insert monster here> comes back from the grave

(and from here folks u can respond accordingly, but i recommend PWWB unless another problem occurs 4 u, in which case; go figure) ^_^
