Looking Ahead 12 - Dark Fusion

We're only taking a short look ahead with this card. It's featured in the forthcoming set Gladiator's Assault which, if the TCG follows the same turnaround as the OCG, should be available in October 07. I will likely get to other GLAS cards, but this should make a nice teaser for some of the things in the set.

Dark Fusion
Normal Spell
Choose from your hand and/or field monsters required for a Fusion monster and send them to Graveyard, Special Summon a Fiend type Fusion monster from Fusion deck. The monster Special Summoned by this card cannot be target or be affected by the effect of opponent's Spell, Trap, and monster effect during this turn. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.)

Where From: Gladiator's Assault
Likely TCG Appearance: Gladiator's Assault

Let's make this real easy. This card is Polymerization for Fiend Fusions, similarly to the way Vehicroid Connection Zone is a Polymerization for Vehicroid Monsters. Like Vehicroid Connection Zone, Dark Fusion gives the monster summoned a little extra protection (in this case total immunity to anything your opponent might try). Unfortunately it only lasts for the turn it is summoned.

Currently, there are only 2 monsters this card could bring out: Dark Balter the Terrible and Bickuribox. Don't worry faithful Fiend lovers. If a card like this is coming out then it would be a safe guess to say that more Fiend Fusions would be coming too. As a bit of a tease though, let me say that you may want to start looking for a copy of Elemental Hero Stratos and Elemental Hero Ocean.

No real rating per say. While all Hand/Field based Polymerization cards are inherently not the best (including this), the card does give a 1 turn immunity to anything your opponent may try. Plus, the list of Gladiator's Assault currently is not complete so more cards could be revealed that could take advantage of Dark Fusion. We will come back to other cards in this set, including a few that would take advantage of Dark Fusion later though.
