Luminous Soldier TP5-EN001

Well well, the "premier" card of the latest Tournament Pack series. When the best you can say is that it's a poor version of "Penumbral Soldier Lady", you know we're not talking about that great of a card (much less one that is supposed to be highly sought after like the TP Ultra Rares Usually are).

2100 Light monster that gains 500ATK when battling a Dark monster. Oh. Boy. It can kill Jinzo. Yippee. It can take out Summoned Skull. I'm shaking now. It dies to Goblin Attack Force.

The best thing I can say about this card is at least I'll have better odds on pulling "Needle Worm", "Big Shield Gardna", and "Magical Thorn" from the set.

Pass.

Sure you can give monsters of any element/attribute a 500Atk bonus with the relevant field card so what were UDE thinking?!

True enough I too would much rather pull one of the TP5 super rares than this.

I used to think this card was terrible, but JaeLove from pojo.com made a very good point - this card will kill almost all commonly played cards apart from Mobius, Goblin Attack Force, Penumbral Soldier Lady and BLS-EotE.

All the commonly played tribute monstes are Jinzo, Vampire Lord or some kind of Dark Fiend... all of which get hammered by this.

If money wasn't an issue and I got hold of this card it would go straight into my Chaos Deck.

Assuming they don't Deck Mystic Plasma Zone or DNA Transplant.

We generally don't deck Mystical Plasma Zon because we Know that it will help out our opponents as much as it helps out us, plus we're the one to be wasting a turn by drawing it. There are many dark monsters, it will get its effect often in Traditional, however, 2600 ATK for a tribute monsters is still not good if it doesn't have a good effect.

I'm afraid I would have to agree on this card not being that worthwhile. Though as some of you have pointed out, it will kill many of the commonly played dark tribute monsters. One of the most notable being Jinzo but it really depends on whats played on a regularly basis in your area. If dark tribute monsters run rampant in your area then this card would be a excellent choice. However, if its not or you go to an area where dark doesn't get played as much then it loses it effectiveness. This card is situational. A little too situational for my taste. It depends on the opponent running dark monsters to make it more useful.

It may be my humble opinion but I like the idea of this being the Ultra Rare card of the TP set. Call me crazy, don't worry because I am and it wont hurt my feelings ;). My reasoning behind this is simple, remember how hard it is to pull a Needle Worm from tp3, or an Mj from tp2 or any of the "Good" TP Ultra's? Any Idea how much they cost to buy as singles? I rather have Junk as the Ultra and have the Supers, Normal Rares, and Commons be the good stuff anytime. I don't know about you, but I don't want to pay 100 something Dollars for an Ultra.

The card itself isn't bad. Does it belong in every deck? No.
Does it work well in select decks? It might and should.
For the most part this is not Main Deck Material for most, maybe Side deck. But no card is bad...well I take that back...Metal Fish was a bad card...

Well to be frank, it's not really an issue for me. If I got hold of this card I'd ebay/trade it at once (I can get £70 for this card here easily) and raise some captial for other cards I want and could make better use of.

Let's not forget that it will kill all level 4 or less monsters (apart from GAF) too. I think this card is an excellent canidate for Chaos Decks. He will kill non-tribute/dark tribute monsters, and if someone kills him...great, more chaos food for my Envoy/C.Sorcerer.

it's a 2100 attack tribute monsters that gains 500 when attacking a dark monster... Even if every monster in my opponent's deck is dark I would still take Fairy King Trusdale!!!

I still want a luminous to complete my TP5 set though, I'll probably have within a few weeks...

Umm, Fairy King Trusdale needs to be in defense position fo rits effect to be applied: it is only a 2200 attacker.

FKT... now THERE'S a waste of a tribute slot.

Perhaps but it would make an excellent choice in a plant deck. It does for plants what Command knight does for warriors. The drawbacks of course are its a tribute and it must be in defense mode for the effect to work. And a def of 2000 ain't exactly all that special, especially for a tribute monster your're using to defend.

Any other deck I would agree it would be more of hinderance than an ally.

I personally think that Luminious Soldier has potential. I am not known on this board yet, but I am on the pojo board under the same name.

There are pretty good things about this cards that stand out.
Pros are:
~Level 5 monster so can be metamorphosised into the feared Dark Balter the Terrable.
~Hes a Warrior, therefore making him a decent Choice for Warrior decks.
~Hes a Light Monster meaning fooder for Black Luster Soldier or CED(Not in advanced) and Chaos Sorceror.
~He Can become a 2600 Attacker when battling some of the most used cards in the game(Jinzo, Juiced against Spirit Reaper, Magical Scientist, Breaker, Kycoo, Don, Vampire Lord, Summoned Skull(well no), All the Gravekeeper Monsters with Necrovalley.
~Only 5 stars makes him one tribute.
~Can be further juiced up with The light Field Spell card, forgot the name.

Cons:
~Low attack for a tribute monster
~Tribute Monster
~Effect only good against Dark Monster's
~TP5 Ultra Rare
~Makes Penbrumal Lady good
~Only 2000 Defence
~Has to be In DEFENCE position for its effect to work.

IMO, this card isn't that bad, but really shouldn't be the TP5 Ultra Rare. Mabey a super rare from a Booster Set or a super rare in TP5, but definatly not Ultra. That's what I feel about this card.

ppl dont give this card enough respect
its not THAT bad

its a Warrior so it has support
Its Light
its Lvl 5 so its Morpable into balter
it kills Blowback,EoA,Jinzo,SS and alot of other dark tribute monsters
and 2100 base attack can kill alot of lvl 4 and unders

We've covered all that, it just comes down to what each player prefers.

And many would prefer something else over the Luminous Soldier, especially if they pulled it out of a pack. The monster does have he uses but I see as a bit too dependant on dueling enviroment to really use it. It'll be a sub-par tribute monster when going up against other element types.

ay ay ay.

guys, do you know how this card came about the first time?

do you guys know in what JPN set, structure, or promo pack did it get released in?

if you knew you would be even more enraged about it.

first off its a Yugi structure deck card.

that means we should have gotten this in the first yugi deck.

2nd Penumbral soldier lady will run circles all over it.

but, both cards have potential, even though people dont like these, in a certain type of deck itll work very well.

using dna transplant for Dark paladin used to be the best thing in the world if i remember correctly back when MFC came about so why not use that with this? (strategy, just instead of transplant use Surgery)

if you think about it, for penumbral just change the field into all light, so that everytime it battles it gains the 1k bost.

for luminous though, the most you can get is the 500 but still, with support any crap card can become quite good.

giant orc, dark balter, terrorking archfiend, dark flare knight, dark necrofear, dark ruler ha des, spirit reaper, etc.. all the dark monsters fall under its little 500 atk bost, but if we use penumbral like luminous then we have another card out there that gets 1k bost, which is far more better because then its even kicks BLS's behind. by 100 points but it gets the job done.

overall, this card is like penumbral soldier lady, where nobody will give a darn about it and itll just be there collecting dust.

if anybody gets this just save it, there are people out there that would pay any wierd amount of cash for really rare cards. even if their crap.

True. Any card with the right support can become quite powerful but one of the main reasons why it gets on some people's nerves is the fact that its an Ultra Rare from the Tournament Pack. Some people would not jump for joy at getting THIS particular Ultra Rare. If anything they would've have wished they had gotten a super rare like Needle Worm
