Magic and Trap Cards that Target

Not that I know of. Here is a general rule. The way most Yugioh cards (and note I said MOST, there are exceptions for which we have rulings as such) are under a format. Here is the general order cards with effects have (effect monster, spell, trap):

First is the cost or things required : This is the part like "Tribute one monster" or "You can only activate this effect when your opponent has no spell or trap cards on the field". It tells you what condition must exist in the game, or what you have to do to activate the card. Cost is always paid immediately, and cannot be negated. Even if the card is negated, the cost is still paid.

Next is the important part. The effects on a card go off in order they are written. So most cards that start with the KEYWORD "Select" target. That is saying "select your target". Some cards that target do not have the word "select" and some cards where choices are made at resolution have "select" in their text.

But normally, if the opponent is making a selection (such as creature swap and the shallow grave), the card does not target.

There is really no definitive list......although it would make things much easier for judges if a quick reference list were made. That way the ones we were unsure on we could look up if we encountered a problem....which is probably why there isn't one. UDE doesn't like to make things easy.

I would say that isn't it. As history has shown, it is harder to "take rulings away", than it is to add them.

The End of Anubis vs Exiled Force
Skill Drain vs Exiled Force
Gearfried the Iron Knight vs Really Eternal Rest
XYZ-Dragon Cannon vs Dimension Fusion

And we STILL don't have an answer on if Gearfried is Continuous or a Triggered Effect.

How long did it take to get those rulings straighted out? Imagine if they made a "Comprehensive List", and they had to scrub that? How long would the fallout from that take to clear?

The effect of The Shallow Grave targets.

UDE FAQ said:
When a card that selects a card in the Graveyard as a target, such as "Monster Reborn", "Mask of Darkness", "Magician of Faith", "Spear Cretin", or "The Shallow Grave", is activated, you may chain "Disappear" to remove the targeted card from play, and the "Monster Reborn", etc., will resolve without effect. This is because these cards select their target at activation, not resolution.

Um. The only reason I know that "Gearfried the Iron Knight" is a continuous effect is because I read it on the Judge List. How is that not an answer?

And how "old" is that answer??? It probably has stuff that still says Skill Drain negates Exiled Force if you look hard enough. I know the answer too, as it was part of a "test" somewhere....

I have been toying with the idea of putting such a list together, but have lacked th time. If we could get one together, based on UDE rulings and Judge_list answers, it would be really cool if we could have something in RONIN and/or netrep that searches for targeting/non-targeting/multiple targeting. I've been keeeping a RONIN folder on the ones that I know for certain (UDE rulings), but it is in now wise complete. Like the folder of what sets off Dark World Monsters.

I think most of you would agree that some trap cards like "Sakuretsu Armor" target and that a Magic card like "Lightning Vortex" does not; it's dealing with cards such as "Lord of D." and trying to explain his effect to duelists who may not understand "Lord of D.'s" effect. Some duelists confuse trap and magic effects with targeting and most rulings on netrep or Ronin are silent as to the differences. I'm beginning my own list based on rulings I've seen posted on all sites."For nearly a millenium, I have served as guardian of an ancient rulings tome"

Chainable and Unchainable Traps

What about a list of which trap cards are chainable and which trap cards are not chainable. There is confusion out there, probably not by advanced players for the most part, but not all traps are chainable, especially when they are heavy stormed or MST'd.

If you wanna get into chains, you have to talk Spell Speeds and you have to be careful about activation requirements. It would be hard to provide a "list" per se of cards that can chain, because it depends on what you would be activating the card in response to.

Thanks, I understand your response; just remember reading (maybe on Pojo) about certain cards that were not chainable in comparison to "Waboku", I think the article may have even mentioned "Ring of Destruction"
