Manticores With Painful Choice?

Cardinal

We just finished playing, and I have rushed back to get a ruling on this combo, which was played on me to get Exodia out using Painful Choice, Manticores of Darknesses & Card of Safe Return.
Im aware of the ruling on Netrepâ„¢:

When you send 1 "Manticore of Darkness" to the Graveyard to Special Summon another "Manticore of Darkness", you can then send the new "Manticore of Darkness" to the Graveyard to Special Summon the first "Manticore of Darkness".
If "Card of Safe Return" is active, and "Manticore of Darkness" is Special Summoned with its effect, you can draw a card. So with 2 "Manticores of Darkness", 1 of them sent to the Graveyard, and "Card of Safe Return" in play, you can draw as many cards as you want.

My question is as we play Traditional Games where we are able to use forbidden cards.
Can Painful Choice be used to start the loop, so when 1 Manticores is chosen from the 5 cards by Painful choice, the player is able to start the cycle, or if 2 Manticores are sent to the graveyard by Painful Choices effect, a winged beast / beast would start it?

Or would it be that Painful Choices type:
Select 5 cards from your Deck and show them to your opponent. Your opponent selects 1 card among them. Add that card to your hand and discard the remaining cards to the Graveyard.

Means that its not sent?

Thanks for any input.

Discraded = discarded
destroyed = destroyed
sent = discarded, destroyed, sent, tossed in the air and happened to land in the grave and however else it gets there.

Any way of sending to the grave is fine for a card that looks for something to be sent somewhere. The terms only need to be worried about when something has to be destroyed or discarded for things to work.

The reason I raised this question, was because of the trouble I had with a Dark-World Deck. Finding Effect Cards to discard DW Monsters, to my graveyard to special summon them.

So I'm gonna take it that the move is legal???????

Manticore of Darkness just has to be sent to the GY. It doesn't care from where or how it got there. Once that happens the effect triggers.

So yes, if you go first with an Exodia Deck, Painful Choice + Card of Safe Return = Good Game.
