Mysterious Guard LOD-021

Mysterious Guard
Attrib: Spellcaster/Effect
Group: Earth
Level:3
Atk: 800
Def: 1200
FLIP: Return 1 face-up monster on the field to the top of its owner's Deck. At the same time, if there is a face-up Warrior-Type monster on your side of the field, you can return another face-up monster to its owner's hand.

One of the most overlooked card, when it should be over abused, Is Mysterious Guard. At first glance this card isn't that great, it sends a monster back to the top of your opponents deck, so what? Not to mention it only works on face up monsters. Also, what are the chances of using the second part of it's effect?

Stop and think about this effect for a second, sending the monster from the field to the top of your opponent's deck using mysterious guard isn't much differant from sending it to the grave with man eater bug/old vindictive magician/night assailant. The only differance it that it's better! It's control, you know what your opponent has in his/her hand letting you use d.d. designator/mind crush. Also, use it on your opponent's tribute monster, this usually gives ur opponent a card they can't use. Even if you don't send back a tribute monster, your limiting your opponent's options; be honest, would you like drawing the same monster over and over again? Not to mention, if your hand already has alot of monsters, your screwed. Mysterious Guard prevents your opponent from drawing a magic or trap card, let that one sink in for a few seconds.

the chances of having 2 face up monsters on your opponents side of the field while flipping a mysterious while a warrior is face up on your side of the field is slim to none. I usually use mysterious's return effect on itself when I get the chance. This doesn't matter though really; the first effect is frigin awsome by itself, especially in advanced format where flip effects can roam free again.

Mysterious Guard is my favorite card next to Exiled Force and Lava Golem, What would you rate Mysterious Guard on a scale of 1-10?

When I was running an Earth Deck, Mysterious Guardian was one of my favorite cards within it. I ran two of them for just the reasons mentioned above. With the plethora of warriors out there, it came quite in handy.

If they attacked my Mysterious Guardian, it usually ended their turn after that since there are no more monsters to run over me with. If it survived until my turn, then it was flipped face up, clearing the field, and then providing a nice tribute to run over my opponent.

Another over looked card indeed. Quite powerful one in a control deck. And it even has a new partner. The 'Back to square one' spell card. The exact same effect except you have to discard a card to use it but it doesn't have the face-up requirement like Mysterious Guard. Guard however isn't as bad a topdeck as 'Back to Square one'

Yeah it'll the opponent from drawing needed spell and traps. If its a tribute monster, they probably won't have the luxury of tributing for it again when they draw it again. Then there's cards that you can use to destroy them before they even try to use them again. Drop Off for example.

Works great with time seal *evil laugh*

BTW, Archfiendgeneral, Mysterious Guard has had a partner for a long time now, it's name it Winged Sage Falcos. Yet another overlooked card I plan on writing my next card review on.

oh yeah. Winged Sage Falcos. A pity the monster has to be in attack position but there's always a way around that like with Final Attack Orders. Even face down monster will switch to Attack mode when flipped up in battle.
