Mystic Swordsman LV2

This may sound like a silly question, but when Mystic Swordsman LV2 attacks a face down, his effect activates to automatically destroy the monster. Now, will My Body as a Shield protect the monster against his effect?

The effect of Mystic Swordsman LV2 activates in the Damage Step. You cannot activate My Body as a Shield in the Damage Step.

Divine Wrath on the other hand would work.

A little lost here...although you can't activate My Body as a Shield in the damage step, isn't the first step to flip the card face up? Mystic Swordsman LV2 destroys the monster with it's effect immediately without flipping the card face up. Why can't you activate My Body as a Shield at the declaration of the attack? It's when it declares an attack that it's effect activates to destroy the face down monster without applying damage calculation. I would think that, like Tribe Infecting Virus, when a monster activates it's effect, that My Body as a Shield can be activated to negate the effect and destroy the monster.

Because Mystic Swordsman LV2's effect to destroy a face down card does not occur when an attack is declared. Likewise the first thing to happen in the damage step is NOT flip a monster face up. It is in fact effects like MSLV2 that will activate upon entering the Damage Step. That is when the "Destroy the face-down monster" would activate and since you are in the Damage Step at that point, the only thing you can do would be activate Divine Wrath as a response to MSLV2's effect.
