NS Grand Mole Attacks Reflect Bounder

NS Grand Mole, while face up, can return both cards to the owners hand BEFORE damage calculation is done. This is important as Reflect Bounder's effect is all done DURING and AFTER damage calculation. If NS Grand Mole is face down, it cannot use it's effect.

Specifically, he wanted to know what happens when Grand Mole attacks Reflect Bounder since their effects would activate at the start of the Damage Step.

Somewhere I saw that the Grand Mole will return both to the respective owner's hands before Reflect Bounder's effect would activate. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I did see that. But that was supposed to be the ruling.

There was never a will in the card effect. The ability to return the cards to the owner's hands is optional and done BEFORE damage calculation. Reflect Bounder inflicts damage DURING damage calculation.

grand mole goes off in the first sub-step.
Reflect bounder goes off "before damage calculation", which is in the second sub-step.

If you chose to activate grand mole, reflect bounder inflicts no damage.
