Pair of Relinquished questions

1) Relinquished is properly summoned and is in face up attack position. He has "Gemini Elf" equipped to him. The other player attacks Relinquished with "Blue-Eyes White Dragon". 1100 damage is done to both players and the "Gemini Elf" is destroyed instead of Relinquished. Now is that 1100 damage that is inflicted upon the opponent considered "effect damage" (and as such "Barrel Behind the Door"-able) or is that 1100 damage considered "battle damage" (similar to the way "Amazon Swords Woman" treats that damage as "battle damage" and as such if say "Waboku" was already active this turn, the the opponent would end up taking no damage).

2) Since the new errata-ed data on Relinquished and Thousand-Eyes Restrict does not mention what happens if a face down monster is absorbed, would their ATK/DEF remain 0/0 (which is what I am assuming) or would it indeed become the ATK/DEF of the monster they sucked up.

I'll leave these for those more knowledgeable than I. :) Thanks.

Effect damage. But according to the JERP, it doesn't go on the chain, so you can't chain to it.

I don't think it would change.

The effect damage produced by Relinquished attacking or being attacked by a monster with higher statistics is effect damage and CAN be redirected with Barrel Behind the Door.

how can the effect damage done in damage step by relinquished be countered by barrel behind the door? aint it so that you can activate nothing but attack/def modifiers during damage step? or does the effect of relinquished kick in after the damage step?

First of all, I and many other guys disagree that relinquished have that "damage sharing effect". The monsters has a parasite effect for god's sake!!, and even so, they want to make it more parasite that he now is :bishop:

I mean that he's already annoying by the fact that it takes one monster of yours, and besides, he works like a withered ring of destruction without destroying a monster. Sorry if I don't explain clearly.

ah i see.
well have you considered your losing 3cards advantage while summoning a 0/0 creature? ya better get some reall good effect out of that. ;)

besides..
just mst your captive monster and attack that poor lil 0/0 for maximume pain

Yes Atk/Def modifiers can be activated in the Damage step, but you forget that you can always activate a counter card to such Modifiers.

For more information one should read this:

the counter cards indirectly invluence the attack/def of the monsters by stopping the cards wich are trying to boost them. wich seems the only logical reason why they can be activated. not the fact that they are spellspeed 3

Well not exactly. Currently the cards which are allowed to be activated in the damage step are:

1) Those that directly raise/lower ATK/DEF. ("Reinforcements", "Castle Walls", "Mirror Wall", and "Limiter Removal")
2) Counter traps. ("Magic Jammer", "Seven Tools of the Bandit", "Barrel Behind the Door")
3) "Null and Void" (in response to the effects or cards like "Airknight Parshath", "Sasuke Samurai #3" or "Bistro Butcher")

now, Raijinili mentioned what the JERP ruling was, but as we all know that doesn't necessarily mean anything here until UDE backs it up and currently there is nothing in their faqs about it one way or the other. I did ask this question on the mailing list so I'm awaiting what they say as well.

Given the conditions for which "Barrel Behind the Door"/"Trap of Board Eraser" could be activated, it does seem fitting that they could be activated when the damage goes through.

i see.
so spellspeed 3's may be activated during damage step aslong as their activation requirement is correct?
and null&void is just one of those cards that gets alittle special treatment.

Well, most of the time, counter traps are activated in the damage step to negate the activation of the S/T that modifies the attack defense, but it's not limited to just that. With the case of "Barrel Behind the Door", "Relinquished"'s effect is the only thing I've seen so far that does inflict effect damage... well no wait... "Gravekeeper's Vassel" inflicts effect damage, but since his effect is considered a continuous effect, that isn't "Barrel"-able.

As for "Null and Void", I can figure out the "why" as to why it is allowed to be activated in the damage step (beyond the simple "because it's on the UDE FAQ") in response to "Airknight Parshath"'s effect (and related monsters), but I need to reread Kevin's article on the Battle Phase first to double check a couple of things. I don't want to post mis-information :bishop:

Just found this as well (from the FAQ)

"¢ You can activate "Barrel Behind the Door" during the Damage Step against appropriate effects, such as "Princess of Tsurugi", because it is a Counter-Trap.

So there's one point clarified. :)

And damage-trigger trap effects. And multi-trigger magic negators and Sorcerer of Black Magic (not Ryu Senshi, Dlannan can tell you why).

Dlannan, there goes another discrepancy 'tween the TCG and the OCG.
