Peten the dark clown

There's no errata needed. The ruling is that if his being sent to the Graveayrd is not the very last "fact" in the Chain (assuming we're talking about Spell/Trap/Monster Effects chaining) you can't activate it. Then you use that one ruling to extrapolate for Archfiend of Gilfer and Pinch Hopper.

I do so hope that as many players as possible are finding out the correct ruling on Peten the Dark Clown. At GenCon So. Cal. and at the last regional tournament in Des Moines I had no end to the headaches and number of times I had to explain the timing issue on Peten. Even at that, many people refused to believe me. It's why many of the judges call Peten...."Peten, the not so good as you think Dark Clown"

A suggestion to those of you who wish take pride and use your technical knowledge to your advantage while dueling.....study up on timing issues. It's likely this will be a greater and greater importance in future sets. It's often difficult to tell which cards having timing issues.

isn't if a card has a option of activation a effect such as Peten or Archfiend of Gilfer iit must be the last thing to occur. For example:

Player A has Archfiend of Gilfer is in play. Player B has 2 set cards.

Player A activates pot of greed asks for a responce.

Player B activates Ring of Destruction on Archfied of Gilfer.

Player A no responce. Both players take 2200.

But Player A is forced to now move into resolving pot of greed and drawing two cards as he misses the "timing" of Archfiend's effect.

I believe tributing the monster and monster gate are two other ways a effect can be missed. ut cards that say when this card is scent to the graveyard blah blah and do not have the words You can or You may on them are forced to occur. Such being Roc from the Valley of haze that reads when this card is scent to the graveyard from your hand shuffle it back into your deck. Being the wording forces you to do it, as well as for witch of the black forest and for sangan, there is no way to miss the timing.

I saw many kids tributing peten and grabbing there decks only for me to call a judge over and discuss it with them. Even though they weren't the smartest bunch they atleast knew that ruling.

Kids are the worst when it comes to Peten's effect because they basically read the effect (and thats all you should have to do *sigh*) and do what it says. The good part is, AT LEAST THEY READ IT! The bad part is, because of the hidden rules that used to only belong to we Judges, they are incorrect.

Peten can only resolve his effect if there is no other action involved when he is sent to the Graveyard. Archfiend of Gilfer is the same.
