Well, seeing has how Gladiator's Assault has just come out and we've all got our nasty little hands on it, let's look ahead at the next set: Phantom Darkness.

Phantom Darkness just may be the best set ever released. Even better than Invasion of Chaos and Cybernetic Revolution. Unbelieveable, you say? Well let's just take a look at some of the more interesting cards in the set:

Rainbow Dark Dragon
Effect Monster (DARK/Dragon/Level 10/4000/0)
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Removing 7 Unique DARK monsters in your Graveyard from Play. You can Remove from Play all DARK monsters you control (except this card) and in your graveyard, to increase the ATK of this card by 500 for each card Removed by this effect.

Much easier to summon than it's LIGHT counterpart, isn't it? Just by removing 7 different DARK monsters in your Graveyard shouldn't be too much of a hassle considering most of the other monsters introduced in this new set. It could also make for an interesting OTK deck along with RftDD or Dimension Fusion. ^_^

Spirit Demon Rose
Effect Monster (DARK/Plant/Level 7/0/1500)
When this card is destroyed by battle, Special Summon 2 “Demon Rose Tokens” (DARK/Plant/Level 3/1200/1200).

Um, Dandylion anyone? This is just a watered down version, sure. But nonetheless a great stall card or tribute fodder card. Whereas Dandylion would have to just be sent to the Graveyard (doens't matter how), this guy has to be sent to the Graveyard by battle, but he's still a force to be reckoned with.

Yubel
Effect Monster (DARK/Fiend/Level 10/0/0)
This card is not destroyed by battle. If this face-up card is attacked by your opponent’s monster, inflict damage equal to the ATK of the attacking monster to your opponent. All Battle Damage to this card’s controller they take from a battle involving this card becomes 0. During your End Phase, this card is destroyed, unless you Tribute 1 monster you control. If this card is destroyed by an effect other than its own, you can Special Summon 1 “Yubel - Das Abscheulich Ritter” from your Hand, Deck or Graveyard.

Yubel - Das Abscheulich Ritter
Effect Monster (DARK/Fiend/Level 10/0/0)
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned by the effect of “Yubel”. This card is not destroyed by battle. If this face-up card is attacked by your opponent’s monster, inflict damage equal to the ATK of the attacking monster to your opponent. All Battle Damage to this card’s controller they take from a battle involving this card becomes 0. During your End Phase, destroy all monsters on the field except this card. If this card is removed from the field, you can Special Summon 1 “Yubel - Das Extremer Traurig Drachen” from your Hand, Deck or Graveyard.

Yubel - Das Extremer Traurig Drachen
Effect Monster (DARK/Fiend/Level 12/0/0)
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by the effect of “Yubel - Das Abscheulich Ritter”. This card is not destroyed by battle. If this face-up card is attacked by your opponent’s monster, inflict damage equal to the ATK of the attacking monster to your opponent, and then destroy that monster. All Battle Damage to this card’s controller they take from a battle involving this card becomes 0.

YUBEL IS HERE! Well, somebody's gonna find a way to abuse Yubel and his/her/whatever's three forms. Espically since Yubel is searchable via Sangan or Mystic Tomato. And the ability of Yubel's higher forms to destroy monsters on the field is just ungodly.

Cyber Vary
Effect Monster (LIGHT/Machine/Level 1/0/0)
Select and activate 1 of the following effects:
  • Activate only during the Battle Phase. Remove this card from play. End the Battle Phase and draw 1 card from your Deck. You can activate this effect during either player’s turn.
  • Remove this card and 1 card on your side of the field from play. Draw 2 cards from your deck.
  • Remove this card and 1 card on your side of the field from play. Add 1 card from your Graveyard to your hand. This card added to your hand cannot be activated during the turn this effect is activated.
Yeah, this guy demands some type of attention, just by the face that he's a LIGHT/Machine.

Volcanic Counter
Effect Monster (FIRE/Pyro/Level 3/300/1300)
You may remove this card in your Graveyard from play, to inflict damage to your opponent’s life points equal to the damage you received as a result of battle.

The Volcanic version of Necro Gardna, but even better. Sure he doesn't negate the actual attack, but he dishes out the same amount of damage that your opponent gave you. That can be GAME ENDING.

Fire Trooper
Effect Monster (FIRE/Pyro/Level 3/1000/1000)
When this card is successfully Normal Summoned or Special Summoned, inflict 1000 points of damage to your opponent’s life points, and send this card to the Graveyard.

I think this guy speaks for himself.

The Dark Creator
Effect Monster (DARK/Thunder/Level 8/2300/3000)
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except when there are 5 or more DARK monsters in your Graveyard and you control no monsters. Once per turn, you may remove 1 DARK monster in your Graveyard to Special Summon 1 DARK monster in your Graveyard.

Enter the DARK versions of some of our more popular current monsters. This is the DARK version of our beloved "The Creator". He's not that bad, espically for the DARK/Graveyard tactic coming in Phantom Darkness. And I swear, it's like this set begs you to mix this strategy with other types of DARK monsters. *coughDESTINYHEROEScough*

Dark Armed Dragon
Effect Monster (DARK/Dragon/Level 7/2800/1000)
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. If you have 3 or more DARK monsters in your Graveyard, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. Remove 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard from play to destroy 1 card on the field.

Dear God. This guy is a POWERHOUSE. Yet another Death Tool in the afore mentioned DARK/RFG/OTK Deck I mentioned with Rainbow Dark Dragon.

Dark Crusader
Effect Monster (DARK/Warrior/Level 4/1600/200)
Send 1 DARK monster from your hand to the Graveyard. This card gains 400 ATK.

A decent beatstick for the new DARK strategy. Ditching 1 DARK monster makes him a 2000 attacker. Ditch 2, and you have an instant Monarch!

Knight of the End
Effect Monster (DARK/Warrior/Level 4/1400/1200)
When this card is Summoned, you can select 1 DARK monster in your Deck and send it to the Graveyard.

Foolish Burial in Monster form, at least for DARK monsters. Need I say more?

Evil Shinobi
Effect Monster (DARK/Warrior/Level 2/400/800)
When this face-up card is selected as an attack target, draw 1 card from your deck.

I like this little guy. He may not seem like much, but that draw can be really handy at the right time. Pluse, he's DARK and can be searched by Mystic Tomato.

The Calculator
Effect Monster (LIGHT/Thunder/Level 2/?/0)
This card gains 300 ATK x the total Levels of face-up monsters you control.

This card singlehandedly makes that Rise of the Dragon Lords deck seem much more scary. I can totally see a fun deck built around this guy. And plus, we have another Thunder Beatstick! (Zaborg, Batteryman AA, etc.)

Neo-Spacian Twinkle Moss
Fusion Effect Monster (LIGHT/Plant/Level 4/500/1100)
This card cannot be Special Summoned except by the effect of “NEX”. This card’s name is also treated as “Neo-Spacian Glow Moss”. If this card battles, draw 1 card from your Deck. Both players check the card drawn by this effect, and depending on what type it is, this card gains the following effect:
  • Monster: End the turn’s Battle Phase.
  • Spell: This card attacks your opponent directly.
  • Trap: This monster is switched to Defense Position.
Isn't this what Neo-Spacian Glow Moss should have been? I like this card. I'll like it even more when Twinkle Neos is announced for release, whenever that is.

Elemental Hero Storm Neos
Fusion Effect Monster (WIND/Warrior/Level 9/3000/2500)
“Elemental Hero Neos” + “Neo-Spacian Air Hummingbird” + “Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin”
This card can only be Special Summoned from your Fusion Deck by returning the above mentioned cards you control to your Deck (You do not use “Polymerization”). Once per turn, you can destroy all Spell and Trap cards on the field. This card is returned to the Fusion Deck at the End Phase. When this card is returned to the Fusion Deck by this effect, return all cards on the field to their owner(s) Decks.

Probably the best Neos Fusion that requires 2 Neo-Spacians. Being able to destroy all Spells & Traps, PER TURN, is enough to demand attention.

Rainbow Neos
Fusion Effect Monster (LIGHT/Warrior/Level 10/4500/3000)
“Elemental Hero Neos” + “Either “Rainbow Dragon” or “Rainbow Dark Dragon”
This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Fusion Summon with the above mentioned Fusion Material Monsters. Once per turn, by sending 1 card of the following to the Graveyard, you can return the appropriate cards to their owner’s Decks:
  • 1 Monster you control: Return all Monsters your opponent controls
  • 1 Spell or Trap you control: Return all Spells and Traps your opponent controls.
  • 1 card from the top of your Deck: Return all cards in your opponent’s Graveyard.
BEST. NEOS. EVER.

Seriously, if you build a deck around this thing, I can see it being a menace. But please note, you can ONLY Fusion Summon it with the above monsters. That means no Fusion Substitutes. And, also note, that Rainbow Neos is NOT a Hero monster. No "Hero" in the name.

Well, that's the Monster version of Phantom Darkness. Those were'nt all the monsters, just the ones I though were really interesting. Share your thoughts!

(P.S.: I'm getting to the Spells & Traps of PTDN soon enough! ^_^)
 
If these are all the actual effects, this set is just full of win. This is insane. Huge DARK support, plus a few other great cards. I'm not a fan of Heroes or Neo-Spacians (because they're from the series, and used by the hero), but Rainbow Neos is still looking good to me.

I haven't looked at the entire set yet, just these cards. But hey, these cards are enough. And most likely all Secret Rare or something stupid like that. Remember when Secret Rare used to be special?
 
I know what you mean Maruno. UDE keeps moving around the rarities of all the cards. Cyber Vary is a Super Rare in Japan, but they'll probably pull the same stunt they did with Crystal Seer with this card.

Why not just let things be? That's how Tribe-Infecting Virus happened. That changed the game. We need more of that in the game. XP
 
Dark Armed Dragon is what makes me think of Tribe Infecting. Notice that the effect doesn't state that you can use the effect "only once per turn." or only on face up monsters? Another nasty card. It's like a Zaborg on steroids. Load up your hand with Morphing Jar and essentially Rageki the opponent's side of the field.

Hmmmm- new exodia variant? With graveyard return (knight of the end and foolish burial followed by backup soldier), some quite interesting ways to get exodia...


 
did not see the "once per turn" for dark crusader either... remove 6 & he's @ 4000...all you would need is a bloated graveyard and something to whack opponents back row for the mid game otk... seems too good to be true... looks like a fun set to be sure... it even looks like the prerelease megaflights should be fun.......

Picture this...

Dark World deck...

Card Destruction or flipping Morphing Jar with Dark Crusader and Promethus on the field...

Discard Goldd and/or Sillva...

Draw for Card Destruction or Morphing Jar

Send dark to the graveyard to pump Crusader

Remove dark for Promethus

Remove other dark for Necrofear.....

OUCH!!!!!

and can we assume a February or March release?
 
From what I'm hearing, yes. Phantom Darkness just came out this weekend in Japan. So, we'll get it sometime soon. I'll guess late January or early/mid Febuary. Something like that. It's gonna be awesome!
