Physical Double MFC-047/DR1-EN102

Card #: MFC-047/DR1-EN102
Card Name: Physical Double
Card Type: Trap
Is Continuous: No
Is Counter: No

Text:
You can only activate this card during your opponent's turn. Select 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field and Special Summon 1 "Mirage Token" in face-up Attack or Defense Position on your side of the field. The "Mirage Token" has the same Level, Type, Attribute, ATK, and DEF as the selected monster. Destroy the "Mirage Token" at the end of the turn.

Rulings:
  • You cannot activate "Physical Double" during the Damage Step.
  • If you activate "Physical Double" and your opponent chains "Ring of Destruction" to destroy his targeted monster, the effect of "Physical Double" disappears.
  • You can target a Monster Token with "Physical Double" to create a Mirage Token copy of it.
  • When the targeted monster's Level, Attribute, etc. are changed after "Physical Double" resolves, the stats of the Mirage Token are not changed. When the targeted monster's Level, Attribute, etc., are changed before "Physical Double" resolves, the changed stats are adopted by the Mirage Token.
  • If a Field Spell Card was active before resolution of "Physical Double" that applied to the targeted monster, it applies to the original monster and to the Mirage Token. So if a Field Spell Card was increasing ATK by +500, the original would get +500 ATK and the Mirage Token would get an additional +500 ATK, for a +1000 ATK bonus total for the Mirage Token over the printed ATK of the original monster. Likewise, when "A Legendary Ocean" is active, and you activate "Physical Double" targeting a WATER monster, the Mirage Token's Level Stars are 2 fewer than the printed Level Stars of the original targeted monster.
  • [Re: Command Knight] If "Physical Double" creates a Mirage Token of a Warrior-Type monster while "Command Knight" is on the field, take the current ATK (including "Command Knight" Bonus), then apply all bonuses again if appropriate. So a Mirage Token of a 1600 ATK Warrior-Type monster would be ATK 2000 (it copies the 1600 ATK and then gains "Command Knight"'s +400 ATK bonus).

I have been racking my brains to try and come up with some more uses for this card. Unfortunately, it has to be used during the opponents turn, which rules out most things that one could do with monster effects and normal spell cards...

The obvious thing is to have Kishido spirit out, and target your opponents biggest monster with physical double- this cuts out the possibility that your opponent will just suicide their monster into the token to clear the way for their other monsters.

Horn of Heaven- provides fodder for negating an opponents summon- but be careful of timing/chains

Enemy Controller- tribute the token to take control of the opponents monster

Spirit Reaper- anything that targets and gets rid of a spirit reaper is a good thing!

Spiritual Wind Art - Miyabi/Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane/Spiritual Water Art - Aoi/Spiritual Fire Art - Kurenai
These all require a tribute that just needs to be tributed, not sent to the graveyard. So using a token is fine. Of course, haveing the right attribute may be problematic but DNA transplant can sort that out. Of these, perhaps the most useable is the earth art, just because earth is more played out of these four attributes. However, fire could be nice in a burn deck with lava golem! (Actually, this gives me an idea for a new style burn deck... summon a lava golem, activate physical double, then use fire art to cause 3000 burn damage.)

Token Feastevil- do some damage, but probably not much.

Token thanksgiving- again, a relatively low life gain

Parasitic ticky- or not....

Any other suggestions?

It combos well with Staunch Defender, for multiple reasons. It's also an all around good general stall card, especiall when you use it during the Battle Step. Duplicate their highest monster and bring it out in any position you want. Apply any additional bonuses and wait to see if your opponent has anything to take it out. It's death at the end of the turn is a good thing, because few people will sacrifice a Enemy Controller just for a temporary heavy hitter. Timing is everything with this card.

..beat me to the punch Maruno! WONDERFUL UO abuse to be had in there, I think the arts might be the next way to go. Don't forget you can do some classic Mystik Wok, Ring of....oops banned for now.... or something like that at the end phase. 8^D
