Poison Draw Frog CRV-EN028

Water/Aqua/2/100/100

Effect: When this face-up card on the field is sent to the Graveyard (unless it was attacked while face-down and destroyed as a result of battle), you can draw 1 card from your Deck.

Rulings

1. If "Poison Draw Frog" is destroyed by "Acid Trap Hole",you can draw 1 card.

2. When a face-up "Poison Draw Frog" equipped to "Relinquished" is sent to the Graveyard, you can draw 1 card.

3. [Re: Giant Kozaky] Like "Atomic Firefly", "Foxfire", and "Poison Draw Frog", if a face-down "Giant Kozaky" is attacked and destroyed, its effect is not applied. However, if a face-down "Giant Kozaky" is attacked, and is not destroyed by the attack, if "Kozaky" is not face-up on the field, then "Giant Kozaky" is destroyed by its own effect after damage calculation, and damage is inflicted by its effect.

Continuing our search for alternative methods of drawing cards from the deck, we take a look today at Posion Draw Frog.

Ok, stat-wise its an embarassment to its Des Frog counterparts. At 100/100 its highly unlikely under normal conditions that it WONT get destroyed by battle while face down which prevents the effect from going off.

The effect however is its only saving grace which ironically only makes it uself when it sent to the graveyard. The problem however is the condition. It has to be face-up. Without certain cards that won;t be possible unless you put it in attack mode (yikes).

Here some ways to help the effect go off.

One is through a Mother Grizzily. While how a grizzily bear is considered primarily a WATER monster is strange, its effect will allow you to special summon this little guy in face-up DEF mode.

Another method would be using Light of intervention. This card will you allow to normal summon it (or special summon through the effect of cyber effect) and keep in face DEF mode.

Since this card doesn't care how it reaches the graveyard from field (aside from being face-up) you could use monsters like catapult turtle (although here it would be REALLY weak Burn), Cannon Soldier or Mass Driver to get rid of it once it hits the field and in all honesty unless you want to save it for a tribute or if its the only meatshield you have left (a terrible one at that), you might as well just get rid it of yourself.

Traps like Ceasefire and Curse of Anubis will also help the effect go off without costing you life points. Ceasefire will put it face up and Curse of Anubis will put a face up ATK mode Frog to DEF position.

Drawbacks to this draw card are plenty. I've already stated two in the beginning of the review. Its stats and the "face-down battle destruction" effect.

At most you'll break even as far as having cards to work with. You get rid of one card to get another from the deck. Yes, it may be that one card you desperately need but you never know.

Your also giving up monster presence (Hey, its still useful since it can take a hit for you) or your normal summon just get another card from the deck.

Beware trample (Airknight, Mefist, Spear Dragon, etc.) and monster effect negators like Hades, End of Anubis, etc.

This card is not just for any deck. Its an alternative method of drawing cards for particular decktypes designed to protect or exploit its rather weak stats and one time uses respectively.

It sealed, don't even ask. Its been a while since I've seen the card list for CRV but I don't recall something that'll allow it to be face-up and not in ATK mode. 1/5

In traditional... should I even bother with this one? You're either very brave or very foolish to use this when all the other preferred drawing cards are here. 0/5

In advance format, it actually stands a chance of working. Ok, let me be honest, the more I anaylize this card, the less I like it. Still, however, there various methods of helping it and taking advantage of the effect. 2.75/5

becuase its not just about drawing, its different combos.

- Its not a flip effect so you wont lose your other copies.
- Its good Creature Swap bait
- Its good Mystic Box bait
- Its good shienen spy bait
- You can Last Will multiple copies and get their effects as well.
- you dont need Tsukuyomi to keep busting its effect.

see over all, its not just about the draw power it has other uses beyond that of a flip effect monster.

The effect of Poison Draw Frog is an optional trigger effect so NO, you won't draw a card if it is tributed for Aoi, etc. However it DOES work when a Levia-Dragon is destroying anything... After that you know it......

I don't like this card too much... It's okay, but really, I don't feel it.

Nonetheless, very well reviewed on your part, Archfiendgeneral. :D
