you can not pay yourself to death. that siad it means that if you do not have more then the lp needed to be pay the archfiend monster is destroyed.

this includes if you have less then the lp needed also

The Yugioh-card.com Japan ruling I know of says that if you have the exact LP, you would lose when you have to pay. At least, I THINK that's what it says.

Well, for the moment, the rule for all cards is that you can never pay yourself to death. You can pay yourself to 1 Life Point, but not to 0.
