Ring of Magnetism vs. Guardian Kay'est

Tiso

Calculative Duelist
I am trying to make my Guardian Deck playable as well as correctly themed and I was wondering can I use Ring of Magnetism to force my opponent to attack Guardian Kay'est, but since he/she cannot attack her what would happen?

She is unaffected by it. That does not mean the monsters are not affected. The effect is not negated, she is just not affected. That would mean no minus of the ATK points. My understanding is that regardless they still would still be able to direct attack me unless I had another monster on the field. Otherwise if I had another monster on the field I think they cannot even bother declaring an attack.

looking at this, and from other things I have read, it would seem that there are two separate effects for Ring of Magnetism:

1- the ATK decrease.
This affects the monster equipped. Since Guardian Kay'est remains unaffected by Spell cards, the ATK would not decrease (pointed out by Tiso)

2-monsters must attack the equipped monster
this effect seems not to be targetting the monster equipped, but limiting the ability of the opponent to declare attacks on other monsters, besides the one equipped with Ring of Magnetism.

I tend to think that this is not directly involving Kay'est itself, and that the effect would continue.

Then I look at certain rulings that talk about "trumping", such as:
[Re: Raregold Armor] "Ring of Magnetism" 'trumps' "Raregold Armor", "Amazoness Tiger", and "Marauding Captain". So if you have a monster equipped with "Ring of Magnetism", and a monster equipped with "Raregold Armor", the monster equipped with "Ring of Magnetism" is the target of attacks.

The whole thing about "must" being more powerful than "cannot".

So Im wondering why the scenario that Tiso outlines is not feasible?

Thoughts?

"If there is a monster equipped with "Ring of Magnetism" on the opponent's side of the field, if your monsters are going to attack they must attack the equipped monster. Even Toon Monsters, "Inaba White Rabbit", and monsters like "Jinzo #7" and "Queen's Double" that can normally Attack Directly must attack the equipped monster."

Inaba White Rabbit cannot attack monsters under normal conditions. It must attack the opponent's lifepoints directly.

However Ring of Magnetism can overpower taht effect.

The card simply attracts all attacks to it.

Like iron to a magnet.

The fly in the soup is that "unaffected" part, and whether RoM affects the opponent's monster or the guardian.

If RoM affects the guardian than no (im not including the ATK/DEF reduction here), if it's the opponent's monsters, then yes, it would work.

I assume since most of these cards have been around since DCR and before, that this question has already been put forth to the Judge's List. Skey?
