Rock Bombardment - TLM-EN055

The Card of the Day for Sunday, July 24th is a common Trap from TLM named Rock Bombardment. TLM gave us support for Rock-types so let's look at how playable this particular card is.

Card # TLM-EN055
Card Name Rock Bombardment
Card Type Trap
Is Counter No
Is Continuous No

Card Text Select 1 Rock-Type monster in your Deck and send it to the Graveyard. Inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points. Then shuffle your Deck.

No Rulings

Well it's a trap so it can be chained to, so that's a plus. You thin your deck by this card, and the card you're sending to the Graveyard - another plus. Not to mention you do a so-so burn of 500 damage when you thin - better plus.

The Rock Spirit and Gigantes immediately come to mind. Dump a monster, burn for 500 and get a nice beatstick on the field by removing the dumped Rock.

Another good way to utilize this is to dump/revive a Tribute monster. So the monsters worthy of doing this are:
- Guardian Sphinx
- Granmarg the Rock Monarch
- Hieracosphinx

and that's about it. Labyrinth Wall, Criosphinx, Enraged Muka Muka are searchable by Giant Rat, Valkyrion the Magna Warrior and Monk Fighter need other monsters. Sand Stone and Stone Ogre Grotto are crap at best. But there is one other Tribute monster that could warrant you playing this card...

Megarock Dragon needs Rocks in the Graveyard to remove. I won't get into the details because this card will be reviewed later this week. But if you're using Megarock Dragon, you can send a Rock to the Graveyard and burn your opponent for 500 while you're at it. Yes, please.

You could dump for Mine Golems, bring them back and then blow them up with Minefield Eruption, but good luck pulling that off.

All in all, it's not a bad card, just not a very good one either. It just doesn't have enough cards around it to be truly worthy, even in a properly built deck. Megarock Dragon decks (complete with Gigantes/The Rock Spirit and Lost Guardian - seriously) should run at least 2, maybe 3 if they have the room. I feel it's best used for Guardian Sphinx, but even then it's situational and Guardian Sphinx doesn't need to be surrounded by it's Rock peers.

Ratings:
3.5/5 in a Rock deck cause that's the only place you're gonna use this.

On a side note, that is the castle from Royal Decree in the artwork and it's getting bombarded by rocks (hence the name I suppose).
