Royal Keeper's effect +300 ATK/DEF?

I was reading the Battle Phase article in the Netrepâ„¢ forum here ( http://www.cogonline.net/threads.6503 ) and saw that Royal Keeper's effect doesn't get applied until AFTER the damage step calculation when he's flipped face up when attacked.

Again, I'm so easily confused... Say I have Gemini Elf and I attack a face-down Royal Keeper, by the above article I would assume that Royal Keeper is destroyed, Gemini's 1900 ATK vs. Royal's 1700 DEF. Damage = 0.

So, basically, the effect of Royal Keeper is really only useful when he is Flip Summoned and attacks... or if he's face-down and is attacked by a monster with <= 1700 DEF and then attacked again by another monster... which, he would now have 2000 DEF. Correct?

Royal Keeper is a Flip Effect, and Flip Effects resolve their effects later in the Damage Step, which means that if he is attacked by a monster that has 1750 ATK while he is face-down, he will be destroyed by Damage Calculation. If somehow he survives, such as Waboku is activated, he will increase his ATK/DEF by 300 in the Resolve Effects portion of the Damage Step, and any further attacks will be with his new Defense.

No, it's an effect that activates when the card is flipped face-up. Nowhere does "FLIP:" appear on the card.
Nowhere did I say FLIP: type effect.... Especially since anytime I talk about FLIP: type effects, I always capitalize FLIP, so there is no confusion.

You said it was a Flip Effect, which is the phrase used to describe an effect with "FLIP:" in front of it.
Flipped Face-up, Flip Summoned, is a Flip Effect. I guess I should have spelled it out for the challenged.

How else does it get its effect?

Heh, the first ruling in RONIN is:

"¢ The effect of "Royal Keeper" is not a Flip Effect.

So, it's not a Flip Effect but when it's flipped face-up, increase the ATK and DEF"... funny, isn't it?

"Flip Effect" is a very special term in YGO and does not include the trigger effect of Royal Keeper.

The effect of Royal Keeper will activate if it's flipped face-up via CeaseFire (that could even save RK from the attacking Gemini Elf ^^).
And it can't be negated by Royal Command.

Again, if I was talking about FLIP: type effects, I would have been specific.

I read the ruling just like you did. I do have a computer, or I wouldnt have been able to type the replies I have been typing. Had I felt the need to type "Flipped Face up, or Flip Summoned", which I didnt think necessary, as they both involve being "Flipped", which is its effect when it is Flipped, I would have done so. He wont get his effect if he is placed face-up on the field, will he??
