Sangan vs. Deck Devastation Virus

I had a guy question this same ruling with DDV destroying a Sangan on the field. The reason that the searched monster is not destroyed is because the hand and field check is already completed. All it does for your next couple turns is check what is drawn. Due to this I was able to win that match, as I searched a Spirit Reaper to hide behind for 3 turns.

You're making it much clearer now, but you are also forgetting that the owner of Sangan cannot resolve the effect of Sangan until he has resolved the effect of Mobius.

DDV resolves, picks off any 1500 monsters in hand and on the field, Mobius destroys 2 Spell or Traps, and then the owner of Sangan resolves the mandatory effect and selects a 1500 or less monster from his deck.

Oh wow, so if Deck Devastation Virus is activated while the foe have a Sangan on the field, whatever they search does NOT die huh? (My foe always says it does, and thus I'm forced to just search Treeborn Frog all the time it happens)

isnt it true you cannot inetrrupt a tribute(summon)? (ddv can't be used in response to sangan going to grave) so i thought sangan's effect goes first on chain , then assuming priority is retained for moby's effect, it would go 2nd on chain... then ddv's effect 3rd and resolve backwards....(with sangan already in graveyard)....and since searching deck is not drawing, that monster to hand from sangan's effect would not be destroyed...is this correct?
agreeing with masterwoo...

Well, that one's obvious. Sangan being tributed is a Cost. So it'll always activate first no matter what. So yeah, the Sangan Searched monster would already be in the hand way before DDV effect even activates.

(yawn) first slurp of coffee......
i didnot think it was obvious....i assumed turn players' priority was used for moby's effect...(link 2)... i also thought sangan's graveyard effect was already on chain before moby hit field (link 1) ( i did not think you could stop in mid tribute summon to resolve sangan before moby hits field) and last (link 3) was activation of DDV(in response to moby's effect) by non turn player.... then go backwards...in which case ddv is resolved first( link 3), then moby's effect (link 2) second and sangan's effect to fetch resolves last (leaving fetched monster safe in your hand)...after ddv resolved...

Um...no. You have this all wrong....sorry.

The correct answer has already been given several times over.

The monster searched by "Sangan"s effect will NOT be in the hand until AFTER the effect of "Deck Devastation Virus" has already activated AND resolved.

And I already told you that your thinking was 100% correct. Please don't start doubting yourself because somebody posts incorrect answers 9 months later.

Thanks.

Hmm.... okay, so when I tribute Sangan for Mobius (Or any monster) and to that, DDV gets chained, the monster that Sangan searches won't be in my hand when DDV gets resolved... Hmm, okay. That sounds odd to me, but oh well. You learn new things in here. Sorry for the confusion.

It sounds odd because you are not placing the effects on a chain. You are just thinking what would happen without following it as you should.

Sangan goes to the Graveyard, becoming chain link 1 as a Mandatory Effect, while Mobius trigger's his effect becoming chain link 2 because his effect is optional.

DDV is chained to Mobius effect, and will resolve FIRST. Only cards already in hand and on the field will be affected at this time. Mobius resolves his effect, destroying up to 2 S/T's, AND THEN Sangan resolves as the last thing to occur.

Since the monster that is being searched is not "drawn", it will remain in hand.

Simple.
