share the pain vs: hand of nephthys

Hello everyone,

Question, if I flip hand of nephthys and play the magic/spell card share the pain can I still use the effect of nephthys? Normally I would assume that I could, since hand of nephthys's effect works as a tribute. I have never seen any kind of ruling on that card, so I wanted to ask and see.

You can't do that. When you activate "Share the Pain", on resolution, you tribute one of your monster and your opponent tribute one of his/her monster. In addition, you can't activate "Share the Pain" if both opponent does not have any monsters on their field that can be tributed.

I think your question would be better if instead of "Share the Pain", you asked about "Soul Exchange". If you use "Soul Exchange", then you can tribute your opponent's monster instead of your "OTHER" monster.

However, I'm not sure if you can use "Soul Exchange" on "Hand of Nephthys". I'm leaning on NO, but I'm not 100% sure.

Hey,

Yeah I know they need a monster...

But basically my question was answered. I guess it must be tributed through it's own card effect... But, I only thought of that combination becuase they are both a form of tributing. I see how it couldn't work, because the actual tribute monster must be in my hand. But as far as soul exchange works. Yes, I think it would work. Because I heard that you could use soul exchange on a ritual monster. Ritual card, soul exchange, then the summoning of whatever is comming out. But, I have never seen a ruling on share the pain, and would've never considered using it till the ban list. I need enemy controller but till then... What else can I use share the pain for? Just tribute summoning for level 7 and higher?

No. "Share tha pain" is not for tributing and then using the tribute monsters for anything. It's basically the same as "send one of your monster to the graveyard, and your opponent must send one of his monster to the graveyard". The only difference between what I have just said and "Share the Pain" is that "Share the Pain" tributes the monsters, not just sends them to the graveyard. You don't do anything with the tributed monsters, not for Tribute Summon, not For Tribute for "Cannon Soldier", or any other effect that involves tributing. You just tribute the monsters thats it. It is not like "Soul Exchange"

For "Soul Exchange", you can't use it if you target your own "Hand of Nephthys" and use "Hand of Nephthys" effect to special summon "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys".

Wow!

I had no idea, I only beleived it worked cause someone did it on me one time. Thanx, now I know. I do beleive you, but really on cards like that where do I find rulings on it? Plus, that card seems pointless now, it could be used for field control in a way, but not to use as change of heart. I guess I really need that enemy controller.

thanx cause I did understand, but I wold've never guessed it was just a pointless tribute.

o.k...

alright I know where to go, but I meant where else besides Netrep>lol I know about upperdecks faq area. But, there isn't really much support for short print cards. I think this is a short print, but anyway I looked on upperdeck last month and never saw this card there. Probably because there wasn't much consideration for the card.

thanx

wow again...

Thanx, yeah I'm really late on this subject.. ( I saw the link, read it all) I'll make sure I'll spread this information around. Wow, I lost in a four way game because he tributed one of my monsters and one of his to bring out his Tryrant dragon, I ended up loosing. Even though I had a buster blader standing at 4,400. Anyway, thanx I need a brain jacker or something>lol Thanx

Oh yeah, off subject where can I possibly find information on the rules for a multiplayer game in yugioh? There are a few complications....
