Six Samurai Question

If I have a Six Samurai equipped with Legendary Ebon Steed and my opponent plays a S/T card like Smashing Ground, Lightning Vortex or Sakuretsu Armor...will the Six Samurai be destroyed or will I just destroy Legendary Ebon, leaving my Six Samurai on the field?

The answer is in the card text of Legendary Ebon Steed: "If [the equipped monster] would be destroyed, destroy this card instead."

It doesn't matter how it would be destroyed. Any method at all would work (destroyed by card effect, destroyed by battle, etc.). Legendary Ebon Steed would destroy itself instead, leaving the equipped Six Samurai monster safe.

That's what I thought but I had a judge rule against me saying that Lightning Vortex destroyed everything on the field, regardless. Nice to know I was right and should it come up in the future, I will remember this posting. Thanks.

No Simon, it wasn't this weekend's Regionals. It happened at the card shop where I sometimes play. Was trying a throw together Samurai deck with Iron Kotetsus and Ebon Steeds. I tried my luck with a Demise deck this weekend and got beat up with Card Troopers and Bazoo removes with Returns. OUCH!!! Watch out during the next Regional. Getting the Fairy deck ready for Force of the Breaker to come out. Meltiel, counters and Fairy/Fiend card removals...Ooooh baby!
