Evil Fishy
in only two weeks, i've got into 2 verbal and potentially physical confrontions. The first time, my freind was selling cards, and he called me over to get a price quote. The buyer didnt like my quote, and started to call me out of my name. I let that one slide. The second time, i was playing someone at the local card place. I swear, his deck has to be valued at two hundred bucks at least (shiny cards) and i whooped him. during the later stages of the match, he became fustrated and started calling me out of my name.(For those who want to know the exact words, it was simaler to bum glutus maximus deragitory term) i guess he was mad because i played premeature, sacracificed for raiza and snatched his UFO turtle for game. When i announced vctory, i slid his turtle across the table. he said that if i threw his card again he would hit me (BTW, common UFO turtle) ehh...some people take this game too far. (IMHO) (im going to try to past a poll of people who have had similar experiences)

Unfortunately such people can be found in almost every facet of life. Ive met the same kind of people doing many various things. You havent lived until youve been threatened because somebody doesnt like your code layout. Its not nice and i would love to see it stop soon but as it is these people probably wont change. In most cases they are bred to be that way and it takes a lot to change their views not least being usually many years in psychiatric care. As long as you just ignore them and take the moral high ground thigs will be fine. And if its in a tourny then by all means report the person. That way you do several things at once. Take the moral high ground, teach him a lesson he sorely needs, aid in enforcing the rules of conduct and last but not least hopefully save the next person he duels from hearing the same kind of language.

Exactly, it's often not easy...but leading by example is the best cure. Showing total class in the face of the lack of it can often have a sobering effect.

...Alternatively, the opponent may simply harbour resentment of being treated so dismissively by you (as they see it), and take it all out on their next unwitting challenger.

That kind of person is a nutbar, and should be simply avoided at all cost.

But a persons like that should be dismissed. His anger is not worth anyone's time.

I haven't encountered anyone like this since High School. But that's a different animal altogether. Something about that building sucks the common sense right of people's heads. Sometimes they try to carry that attitude over into the rest of the world. But they won't do it with an adult, unless their just completely insane, in which case, it isn't going to be long before police are involved.

I've seen other teenagers treat each other this way now that I'm older, and it's amazing how their manners kick in when they start playing with me or another adult. There's always going to be a little insecurity in a person's life, but it will never be so magnified, it will never feel like so insurmountable a load as it will when your a teenager. And these guys like to prey on that, when it suits their needs.

Living in the Bronx, I'm willing to bet that everyone you play against has somewhat of a more tough-guy demeanor anyways. (What's the old joke? Who has the right-of-way at a four way stop. I live in the Bronx. It's the guy with the gun.) Best thing to do is not to shown any type of concern. The less he thinks you fear him, the less he thinks you care one way or the other, the better.

This is going to be tough, so please hear me out.
I have met many such in-duh-viduals as you describe. Something you have to realise, is not only does idiotic faeces happen, but immature idiotic faeces happens too.
What you must realise firstly & above all, it is a game both aimed at & designed for little children.
Don't you remember as a kid.."you suck, I dont..nyah nyah, ur mom wears army boots..etc etc" This is NO different.
A lot (but not all) who play this game are male & at a time when their "gotta kill something to survive" hormones are kicking in.
Men have had this gene since prehistoric times. It's a shame that many neanderthals still exist.
Yep, you guessed it, I am a woman duelist.
You cannot complain about kids being kids just as you cannot complain about men being men. Put them together = disaster.
If a person does not like any prices I give them, I'm usually like "Do you want it or not?. If not, I'll find somebody else" or simply "Dont even bother wasting both our times here. Goodbye".
If any of them touch/push you, its grounds for hazing & assault.
If any of them continue to be jackasses, have a friendly word to yout T.O about it. If you got any evidence, all the better.
You never take the moral high ground by being sanctimonius. This just makes them worse. Its far better to ignore them & remind them there's a GAME to be played.
If they cannot handle that, remind them of your busy schedule.
If you either cannot ignore them/deal with them by using proper channels, you prolly were the type who got intimidated by schoolyard bullies.
Realise that & move on.
