special summoning during battle phase

I have a question
1) Is it legal to use a monsters effect to special summon a monster from your hand during battle phase?

Yes, as long as it is not during Damage Step. But I'm firing my gun quickly here, so I might be wrong.

Do you mean monsters that summon themselves?

e.g. Garuda the Wind Spirit, Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning


Those monsters can only special summon themselves during the controller's main phase 1 or 2.

I though he wanted to know if a monster can use his effect to summon another monster to the field during Battle Phase.

Now, assuming the effect of the monster is not an Ignition Effect, I would say Yes (but not in Damage Step). But I can't think of any monster that has this kind of effect, at the moment.

To me it would seem like he's talking about an effect like Pinchhitting Grasshopper, errrrr, Pinch Hopper. Which, is perfectly legal and advisable to do, last I knew.

Then again, I'm known to be wrong on occasion.

"Pinch Hopper"'s effect can activate during Damage Step. So, I guess, the answer to the main question is:

1. No you can't if the effect is Ignition Effect or a monster with Special Summoning condition (ex. BLS-Envoy)
2. Yes if the card says so (ex. "Pinch Hopper")

k here goes.

Special summoning from your hand during battle phase, no you cannot, unless a spell or trap card currently on the field lets you to do so.

thouse not considered special summon. you can normal summon during battle phase using Ultimate Offerings. or i think you can.

now if its a monster in your hand and you want to special summon it then no you cant. you are only allowed to summon during main phase 1 and 2.

if you use A Hero Emerges during opponents then oviously you are summening but again only through an effect of a card on the field.

Stuff That Summons durring the Damage Step Includes the SRL Cards like: Mother Grizzly, Mystic Tomato, UFO Turtle, Giant Rat. Simlar cards like Germ, Nimble, or when Cyber Jar are attacked they special Summon in the Damage step. Thats the reason you will never be able to TT, Trap Hole, or even BTH any monster special summoned from those type of monster.

King Dragun doesn't state when during your turn you can special summon a dragon type from your hand, if it were during the battle phase, some killer combos can be made. Does it work like that?

The FAQ on "King Dragun" states that
1. The first effect of "King Dragun" is a Continuous Effect. The second effect of "King Dragun" is an Ignition Effect.

So, Ignition Effect can only be activated on the Turn Player's MP1 and MP2.
