Spell Counters Question

If Pitch Black Power Stone is face up and is down to 1 counter with Skilled Dark Magician face up with 2 counters and SDM is turned face down by Book of Moon, can the counters be put back on the Power Stone or do they Disappear? I say they Disappear, but need to check.

They Dissapear. I don't know if you can even "Return" a counter to Pich Black Stone...I would say you can't

Correct, you can't return a spell counter back to the Stone since no card to my knowledge does that kind of transfer.

You can, however, give Pitch-Black Power Stone a counter through the effect of Apprentice Magician or something like that.

This brings up another quesstion (laffs at autolinker):

Face up on my side of the field, Royal Magical Library with 2 spell counters and Skilled Dark Magician with 1 spell counter. Can I move the 2 spell counters from RML to SDM to get his effect?

Spell Speed of Spell Counters

Hi

Here is one which confuses me at the moment.

According to the ruling for Pitch-Black Power Stone, removing a counter from PBPS is Spell Speed 2 so can chain and remove a counter if something like MST tries to destroy this card. However, the counter removal from Breaker the Magical Warrior is a cost and cannot chain to anything.

Why the difference? What basic rule am I missing?

That's because Breaker the Magical Warrior is an Ignition Effect, and that is a Spell Speed 1 type of effect, which can only be used on your turn, as well as not being able to chain to any effects.

what about using Magical Plant Mandragola to add spell counters back to your cards ??

You see, the difference between the two is the fact that one is part of an Effect Monster Card and the other is part of a trap. Counters don't have their own seperate Spell Speeds, its the effect that generaes them that truly matters.
