Stealth Bird's Effect

Ok, i was wondering that if stealth bird is face down, and its ur main phase, can u flip him face up, then flip him back face down? I know ur only allowed one flip summon/set/normal summon, but it says that u CAN flip him face down. So I need an answer.

Yes you can do that. You can manually change a monster's position if all of the following are true:
  1. The monster has not be summoned (including flip summon and special summon) or set this turn.
  2. The monster's battle position has not been changed manually or changed by a card's effect (it's own effect or other card effect such as Book of Moon).
  3. The monster has not attacked yet.
In fact, that is the correct way of playing Stealth Bird, Swarm of Locust, Swarm of Scarabs, and Guardian Sphinx. You set them on this turn (you can also summon them in ATK position, but you loose the surprise), then on your next turn, flip summon them, attack if you want, then use their effect to turn them face-down deffense position.

Now, the other way won't work. If they were in ATK position, you can use their effect to flip them face-down, but you can't flip summon them at this turn anymore.

Also, you are allowed to flip summon as many monster as you wish.

I read somewhere that if they're fliped face up on Main Phase 1, they would have to wait for Main Phase 2 to go face down again...thats true right? *just clarifying*

ok, thnx guys, cause I was told that if it is already face down, that u can flip it face up, but u would need to wait til ur next turn to flip it back to face down. I dont even care if I need to wait to main phase 2, as long as i can do it in one turn.

Ok, thank you so much guys. However, people at my local tournament still dont think that I can do that, so can anyone give me a link to an official site with rulings saying that I can do so, even if it says in a rulebook on an official site or something, I just need proof.

You can. I just can't see why not, thats the whole idea of Stealth Bird's effect...

You flip summon Stealth Bird (manual change), inflict 1000 points of damage to your opponent, then use the effect (effect) to turn Stealth Bird to face-down defense position.

Stealth Bird effect is an Ignition Effect that you may use during either of the Main Phases (1or2)
