Swords of concealing light Vs Light of intervention

But the rulings also say that if a card effect would place the monsters in face-down defense (like the effect of "Morphing Jar #2") then they are placed face-up defense.

So with "Swords of Concealing Light", monsters would be switched to defense position, but remain face-up and their battle positions could not be changed. Think of it as if "what if the opponent only had tokens on the field?" (they go and stay in defense position since they can't be flipped face-down).
This seems to be the BEST explaination of the day..;).

Tokens can NEVER be flipped face down, or 'placed' in the 'set' position. Cards like "Book of Moon" CANNOT be activated to target a token, we all know this.

While "Light of Intervention" is active, monster cards CANNOT be 'placed' in the 'set' position, just like monster tokens.

The following ruling can EASILY be modified to fit this situation:
"Since there's no such thing as a face-down Monster Token, Monster Tokens are simply changed to Defense Position when the effect of "Swords of Concealing Light" is applied."

Now modified:
"Since Monster Cards cannot be placed in face-down (set) position as long as "Light of Intervention" is active, face-up Monster Cards are simply changed to Defense Position when the effect of "Swords of Concealing Light" is applied."

This, to me, makes the most sense. Good job densetsu_x!

Sorry it took so long for me to 'come to my senses'. It took the chaosruling powers of a digital jedi to help me understand the densetsu_x factor. :D

Looks like Light of Intervention overides any effect that would put them face-down:

  • While this card is on the field you cannot flip a monster face-down with "Book of Moon", "Darkness Approaches", etc.

Seems to me if a chain resolves backwards than LoI would rule the day in that paticular case.

it says Book of Moon etc. cannot switch face down, doesn't say it can't be activated.

Also, tokens inherently cannot exist face down and it states that tokens are switched to defense when Swords of Concealing Light is activated. Tokens are also invalid targets for Book of Moon. I say Swords of concealing can be activated while Light of Intervention is active.

Oh I don't disagree that LoI can be activated. I just don't think it will turn non-tokens face down (even in a chain) with SoCL. And usually targeting effect's like Book of Moon can't be activated if the target is illegal. Like trying to target Guardian Kay'est with Staunch Defender.

I agree with skey23's modified ruling: "Since Monster Cards cannot be placed in face-down (set) position as long as "Light of Intervention" is active, face-up Monster Cards are simply changed to Defense Position when the effect of "Swords of Concealing Light" is applied." Although that's completely unclear looking just at the card texts.

Let me take a shot at it:
Swords of Concealing Light is a blanketing effect that covers your opponent's entire side of the field. However, according to the rulings, it's effect is conditional. Bite Shoes and Enemy Controller can still target the affected monsters.

Light of Intervention is also a blanketing effect covering the both sides of the field. However, according to the rulings, it's effect is unconditional. Book of Moon and Darkness Approaches cannot target the effected monsters.

However, since niether card uses a targeting effect and LoI's efffect is unconditional, I would think LoI would only try to stop the portion of the effect trying to turn them face down.
