Not promising anything, but if it were possible. Let's say we could add a layer to the process of the YGO Card Name Game.

Suppose we had it set up to where, when someone has a turn, they could fill out a form and post the riddle to the thread, or a new thread as the case may be. What would make this different from just posting as normal is we may be able to make a module that captures the riddle, who posted it, and puts it in a table where everyone can see it when they log in, or when it changes. Just like the the block to the left that holds the green CafePress ad. It might look something like this:

So, what do you think. Would this be something you'd use and enjoy? Like I said, I can't guarantee anything. But if it's something you would like I'll definitely try to make it happen.

In theory, not a bad idea.

In practice, I know my clues in the past haven't nor wouldn't always fit in a nice little frame like that. But hey, at least I'm not giving you a "Oh Hell No." kind of answer.

LOL. Well, the box would resize with the contents, for certain. I'd be using a vBadvanced module. So depending on how wide I set it, it would elongate to the size of the text. It's just an example, though. It could also be a vertical box.

Another thought here. Just throwing out ideas. To date we have over 5000 posts in the game, which means it's popular. (Duh!) The most popular thread we've ever had. Maybe, even popular enough for it's own sub-forum.

I mention this, because I just looked some stuff over, and we can actually have an area where when you go to start a thread, you'll be taken to a form, fill it our with your riddle, and submit it as a new thread. Give us a way to break free from the constraints of a monster thread (though, admittedly, I've been wanting to see how big the thread could get) with seperate threads for each new riddle.

If that's the case, then just anyone could post a new riddle. We've had a couple of those people before in the thread.

The way I see it, you're proposing a new sub-forum of the forum entirely for threads each containing a riddle for people to guess. Or perhaps more generally, a word games sub-forum, which could also include such popular games as "TCG Hangman" and "20 Yu-Gi-Oh! Questions". If anyone wants to start those games as threads, go ahead.

A new word games sub-forum is good enough (if you have enough word games to justify it), but the idea of splitting up the "YGO Card Name Game" thread is less appealing. Not just because of the lack of continuity and the random new rounds posted in the middle of previous ones, but because this idea seems to be linked to your InfoModule. There are often times when a clue is a huge block of text, or the clue is hidden away inside seemingly aimless ramblings. Being forced to restrict your clues to a couple of lines (at most) is rather harsh (even if most of the time it's not a problem anyway). Plus, the addition of future clues in the same round I'm guessing wouldn't show up in the InfoModule. Finally, the random newbie rounds would overwrite the actual active round.

Essentially, nice idea, but too restrictive for us, and there are a number of things that can go wrong. Plus, it's cool having such a long thread. Sorry, but that's my opinion.

I'd suggest making a new Word Games sub-forum (probably in the City Hall section), though.

I think it would be great to see it would make things a little easier.

BTW nice selection of clue to demostrate it.

2 thoughts from me.. because I am sorta on the fence on this one....

1. It seems like a really cool idea, I would love to see it happen cuz then it makes it like a fun game on the site that you can play....

2. I dont wanna see the BIG MONSTER THREAD go away cuz I like the idea that I could be post # 5800, or 6000 ..... its fun to be that one post that sits on that milestone... ..

Dittos to Kingpin, but also, would this new "box" we're talking aboutbe able to be added to by the originator, so additional clues can be added later, if no one gets the first one?

Of course it would....dumb of me to ask, right?

The nature of the box is automated. You only need fill out the form with your clue and hit submit to get it to post the thread/post. The box will pull the information automatically. I'm pretty sure I can customize the module to display the current clue only

We don't necessarily have to do away with the singular thread. The sub-forum is just an idea I thought I'd throw out there. (And would be just a little less work on my part to make functional) If the milestones mean that much to you I can try to make it work within a single thread. The other reason I thought a sub-forum might be useful is because it makes it easier to go back and read the first clue to the current riddle. And it makes a place for whoever's "it" to edit in the list of clues so far. You also get to see, at a glance, who's riddles are the hardest and taken the longest to solve.

Hey, Im down for whatever.. I'd miss the monster thread, but then again, we play this game so much that it would be cool to start the count over.. and occassionally have a prize, (like points, or something) .. for the person who posts on a thread milestone, like 100, 1000, 2000, etc.. u get the picture....
Plus it is really cool to see that this one thread is so popular that it is coming up on 6000 posts.. .. thats so sweet...

Besides that... I think it is an awesome idea to do it up the way you propose DJ... kudos for thinking of it.... I cant wait to see how it appears... and how it works... I know.. lets do a TEST FORUM.... for it... that way we can try it out, and give you feedback on it..... then u will know how to make it better before launching the actual version... .make sense?? like a beta version to test out... either way, i think you will do a bang up job.... I cant wait to see how it turns out...

Okay, under the presumption I can make this work, here's what I'd do. Like I said above, this could easily start a new thread, or keep the old thread, whichever is preferred, but you'd have a place to fill out your first riddle. You would not have to go there everytime you wanted to make an addition riddle or clue. Just when you create your initial riddle at the beginning of your turn. The game proceeds as normal with you dropping hints along the way in the regular manner to which your accustomed.

The little module will show your riddle and link back to the post you made that first riddle in, so not only will people who've not been back since the beginning of the current turn be able to directly pick up where the new set of clues begin, but they will also immediately know when visiting the home page "who's it".

If I can make it work, what say we do it on a trial basis, and if you don't like it, we can put back the way it is?

Sounds good to me, as long as you don't mind a flood of questions that might come up. It's great now, because I'm out of it this round. Oh, and just for now, can we keep the thread, please? It's so long and pretty.
