Ultimate Offering / Dark Dust Spirit

I'm trying to work out a combo with Ultimate Offering and Dark Dust Spirit during my opponent's battle phase...

Say I have a Needle Worm set and have Ultimate Offering already face-up and have Dark Dust Spirit in my hand. He declares an attack on the set Needle Worm:

1) Can I activate Ultimate Offering 's effect after Needle Worm is flipped face-up and still get Needle Worm 's effect before I tribute him for Dark Dust Spirit? (I doubt it.)

2) Whether it has to be before or after Needle Worm is flipped face-up, when does Dark Dust Spirit 's effect activate? Immediately and destroys all face-up monsters except himself, including the attacking monster? (I think so.)

1. This doesn't work because you have already entered into the Damage Step. You can't use the effect of "Ultimate Offering" during the Damage Step.

2. "Dark Dust Spirit's" effect will activate as soon as the current chain finishes resolving. If you activate the effect of "Ultimate Offering" in response to an attack, then yes, that attacking monster will be destroyed.

Thanks... so in question #1... I can activate Ultimate Offering 's effect after the Turn Player passes priority after declaring the attack on my set monster but before I flip it face-up. Correct?

Right. It's still the Battle Step, so you can use Ultimate Offering.

Kinda on topic here, but you could always play Desert Sunlight when they enter the Battle Phase to get the Needle Worm's effect and THEN bring out Dark Dust Spirit when they actually attack, right?
