What's the dillie-o about Pandemonium?

Council of Heroes
Alrighty folks....I'm sort of looking for those that know the OCG or some higher ups that have more insight to things for some help. Here's the skinny...

As we know, Falling Down requires an Archfiend card to be on the field. Archfiends have been traditionally defined as those cards with "Archfiend" in their name or have been "grandfathered" in by UDE, such as Lesser Fiend and Summoned Skull.

As such, while not normally paired together, you can use Archfiend's Oath as a fulfillment to activate Falling Down.

Now, in the OCG or Japanese text, Archfiends are labeled as "Demons" and Pandemonium itself is actually entitled "The Lair of 10,000 Demons". So I'm guessing in the OCG, you could activate Falling Down while the Lair is on the field.

So why didn't they preserve this part of the game when it made it over here? They could have easily "grandfathered" Pandemonium in with the list of non-standard named archfiends (Heck even Shadow Tamer is an Archfiend!) to make this work.

Or did I completely miss something along the way? 8^D Any help is ALWAYS greatly appreciated!

The actual classification of Archfiend has to do with the specific Katakana used in the card's name. This Katakana is roughly pronounced as "Demon" (even in Japan). However, there are also other ways at deriving the English word "Demon" from Japanese text, including a regular Kanji representation.

Locate and examine some of the known "Archfiend" cards in their native Japanese. You'll see the same Katakana pattern in each of them. Then locate a Pandemonium and I bet you won't see that pattern in it.

I'll see if I can dig up some scans and create a picture here sometime tonight so everyone can see what I'm talking about.

As promised .... note the lack of the Katakana for "Demon" in the name of Pandemonium:

edit: If you don't see red ovals around multiple characters, please refresh ... I changed the image.

Oooo... you're right. What's the story with this card? By all accounts, this should be an Archfiend card ... or have I circled the incorrect Katakana in my little picture here?

Yes you have. The only thing i can think of is that the 5th symbol is actually a suffix that should be considered attached to the others

Or that it shouldn't matter that it's an archfiend, as it is not a card that will stay on the field. (I.e. archfiend or not it will not meet the conditions for Axe of Despair (except for maybe one complex situation with Magical Hats :S )) But (Archfiend's Roar)edit was ruled to be an archfiend even though it doesn't remain on the field.

Right, but what I'm getting at is that even though A Deal with Dark Ruler doesn't remain on the field, it still ought to be able to satisfy the condition of Archfiend's Roar if A-roar were chained to Deal. So then we can't dismiss Deal as not being relevant. More than once I've held Deal and A-roar in my hand at the same time. I'd've liked to activate them.

Dude, this is crazy cool! I almost want to go learn Japanese after all of this. Hmm, think we've unconvered more mysteries and solved a few at this point. Should I shoot an e-mail to Curtis and the UDE judges and see if I actually get a reponse on that manner? 8^D

Do we know if the Lair of 10,000 demons fulfilled the requirement for Falling Down in the Japanese game?
