Windstorm of Etaqua PCY-EN001

Windstorm of Etaqua
Normal Trap

Change the battle positions of all face-up monsters on your opponent's side of the field.

"¢ [Re: Total Defense Shogun] If "Total Defense Shogun" attacks while in Attack Position, and is changed to Defense Position by "Windstorm of Etaqua", his attack resolves as normal because he can attack while in Defense Position.

Ah, one of favorite traps, Windstorm of Etaqua. This card makes Scapegoat useless, and is Berserk Gorilla's worst enemy. I personally think this card is great tech, and greatly aids any card with piercing battle damage and wants to attack into the lower of ATK/DEF.

This card comboes rather nicely with Ojama Trio, your opponent's Scapegoat, and Meteorain. Meteorain + Windstorm of Etaqua will allow for some piercing battle damage from every monster you have on your side of the field, regardless of when it is summoned. This card also comboes very nicely with Tragedy, but Tragedy doesn't see as much play.

This card has the advantage of only affecting your opponent, which means your high ATK monsters won't have to depend on their low DEF scores to survive, which is where Zero Gravity is not as good as Windstorm, except for certain decks.

This card is a trap, which takes away from the speed of the game, and slows you down a turn. It isn't that vulnerable, because you can chain it to most any attempt to destroy it. Also, the Roid monsters seem almost impervious to Windstorm as most of their DEFs are equal to or higher than their ATKs. It can also allow a cautious opponent who puts their BLS in Defense to avoid Mirror Force get off an attack, regardless, because it will switch BLS to attack mode. It can also backfire if you switch on of their "sleeping" attackers, such as Goblin Elite Attack Force, back to attack mode.

When playing this card, get a setup. Build up a field presence, then have Windstorm set. Go to attack, then once Scapegoat (when they hopefully actiavte it to save themselves) resolves, and causes a replay, play Windstorm and start swinging into goats as if they aren't there.

This card goes best in a piercing battle damage deck, but also goes well as tech in any deck against today's CCGC decks.

Advanced: 4/5 Scapegoat gets even more abuse here.
Traditional: 3/5 Good, because it's chainable, but still not as good in this format.
Sealed Pack: _/5 Not applicable.
Limited: _/5 Not applicable.

Today we look at Windstorm of Etaqua, the alternative to Waboku and Threatening Roar.

Personally, I don't have too much experience with Windstorm, but I do know how to use it well. It's a good card. An painful counter to your opponent's Scapegoat, or a combo with your own Ojama Trio, Windstorm is good for laying the hurt on your opponent's monsters. In some ways, it can work like Tsukuyomi, switching all of your opponent's monsters to defense mode for you to attack them. Unlike Tsukuyomi, it can destroy Berserk Gorilla instead of just flip it. As aforementioned, using it on your own Ojama Trio or your opponent's Scapegoats and then smacking down an Asura Priest is very devastating. Who needs to trample? You can use it more than just offensively, however; on the defense, it's quite good as well. The best part is, it goes in any deck perfectly!

Windstorm opens up a door when it's activated, allowing a plethora of combos to mosey on in and lay some hurt. Scapegoat + Asura Priest + This is one, but if your opponent isn't using the goats, this + Ojama Trio + Asura Priest works too. However, that's more of a combo you'd use in a deck centered on the Ojamas. Windstorm against Beserk Gorilla works too, and, my personal favorite, Windstorm and Tragedy is amazing. You can easily wipe out your opponent's entire field by using two Windstorms (if needed) and Tragedy.

When you activate this, you gain the advantage of making your opponent either a) Lose all of his/her attacks, b) lose all of his/her monsters, or c) be delayed for a turn. Most of the times after you use this, your opponent shouldn't have any monsters left, if you use it wisely, that is.

However, it has a few drawbacks. There can be a lot of times where using this doesn't really help you, or using it won't make a difference at all. For instance, if your opponent has a Total Defense Shogun, using this won't matter. If all your opponent has are face-down monsters, you can't use this. You can see where the rest flows on from here. Basically, it can't be used all of the time effectively. When your opponent only has one monster that won't matter if it's in attack or defense mode, this card isn't working miracles for you, such as if your opponent has a monster with a high ATK and DEF out (Shinato, for example). Oh, and, beware the Clowns and Blade Rabbits too. That could hurt.

When you do decide to run and use this card, I'd say abuse it as much as possible. In a deck with Enemy Controllers, Book of Moons, Curse of Anubis, Otohimes, Tsukuyomis, Windstorm of Etaquas, and/or Zero Gravity plus Tragedy and Ojama Trio at times, it can really make your opponent cringe. And this card definitely is amazing against Scapegoat and Berserk Gorilla. What it has over Curse of Anubis is that it can change defense modes to attack modes too, and what it has over Threatening Roar and Waboku is that it can be used offensively. Personally, I think that's why it's better than all of those.

What is now blatantly obvious is that using this card alongside Tragedy and against Scapegoats and Ojamas works wonders. That means that the best deck for this card is one centered around Tragedy, though it can really go into any deck as a defensive or offensive maneuver.
