Zombyra the Dark - DB2-EN010

Zombyra the Dark
Effect Monster - DARK/Warrior
ATK: 2100, DEF: 500
"This card cannot attack a player directly. Each time this card destroys 1 monster as a result of battle, decrease the ATK of this card by 200 points."

Auto-linking on for rulings purposes.

Today we look at a common monster now available in 3 forms. But it's not just any monster; it's a 2100 ATK beatstick.

What makes Zombyra so good? DARK/Warrior, 2100 ATK. Searchable by Reinforcement of the Army, welll supported, blah blah blah. It's 2100 ATK bowls over Berserk Gorilla, but more importantly - Vampire Lord. That's why this card is so vital in the new format.

Sure you lose 200 ATK each time you kill something, and you can't attack directly. But by then, Zombyra will have served his purpose. His low DEF makes him very easy prey for Tsukuyomi and Book of Moon, but there are ways around that. Also, should he survive after being flipped face-down, he's back to 2100 when flipped face-up again... very sweet.

This guy is just begging to be used in a Skill Drain deck, and has been used there quite effectively. As already mentioned, he runs over Berserk and V-Lord. Hey, you're already running Donnie Z, so why not another DARK/Warrior?

Advanced: 4/5 - brought down only by the low DEF and ATK drop
Traditional: 2/5 - there are better choices
Limited: 4/5 - Few choices in LON are better than this

oh sorry jathro if you thought i was pointing my finger at you i was talking to the other people who dissed it.thank you.

*is still dissing ready for*
I liked the review, Jathro, although you kinda skimped over that you can flip it face down with your own Tsuki, and flip summon it that same turn (new flipper rules) so he can always be 2100 during your turn, and 1900 during your opponent's turn. Compare that to Steamroid...

And of course, it can be fused to form The Last Warrior from Another Planet. Although the required other material isnt especially good, at least fusion subs can be used, including The Earth Hex Sealed Fusion.

This makes it rather useful in 'true fusion' decks, espcecially the non-themed ones. Splashing in a Zombyra gives a nice 2100 attack wall which can stall until you find a fusion sub, after which you have a slightly bigger attacker (with a non-decreasing attack) with a nice efffect i.e. no-one gets to do any summoning; or until you find a Thunder Dragon.

It can even be used as the basis for a LWFAP deck, rather than in a single copy, although LWFAP does need a rather specialised deck built around it.
