Continuous Effects while building a chain.

Okay, this may sound weird, but eventually this will play into something.

We all know that continuous effects of monsters activate as soon as they hit the field, but they cannot interrupt the resolution of a card effect mid process.

For example. If I have a facedown Jinzo on the field and I activate Ceasefire, Ceasefire's effect will still deal damage to my opponent because even though Jinzo is now face up, we haven't finished resolving the effect of Ceasefire yet, so Jinzo's effect can't take hold.

But what about continuous effects when we are building up the chain?

For example. I have Kozaky on my side of the field and my opponent has a Giant Kozaky and Dark Ruler Ha Des. I activate Enemy Controller, tributing my Kozaky and targeting my opponent's Dark Ruler Ha Des. The opporunity now arises for my opponent to chain to EC.

At this point, is Giant Kozaky automatically destroyed by his effect, or does my opponent have time to add Book of Moon to the Chain, so that they could flip GKZ face down and prevent the immediate "tactical nuke" that arises within it?

yea, i know reap stays alive, but im trying to relate the 2....

in the case of Giant K, once the chain resolves, he's fd, why does he get destryoed?

basically, its simply because of the rulings that states that Spirit Reaper's effect must wait for a targetting effect to resolve before it can destroy itself, and it must still be face up at that time for its effect to activate. Its more of a trigger effect than a continuous effect.

Giant Kozaky's self implosion is a continuous effect that does not go on the chain sequencing. Its effect happens fully(activates and resolves) in between chain links; after Enemy Controller has tributed away Kozaky, but before any other effect (like Book of Moon) could flip GKZ face down.

Well it is actually a continous effect, that's why it doesn't use the chain.

Giant Kozaky is destroyed by a condition. Spirit Reaper is destroyed by his effect.

That is the major difference between the two, just as if you had a Armor Exe on the field without a Spell Counter to remove during your Standby Phase.

Giant Kozaky can be destroyed without his effect going on a chain because his condition for being on the field is tied to Kozaky. Without Kozaky, he is instantly destroyed.

Spirit Reaper, as pointed out, must have quite a few things occur before he can be destroyed.

1. Must be targeted by an effect
2. Must be face-up on the field when the effect (targeting, and his effect) resolves
3. Effect cannot destroy him if activation negated

So, even if Spirit Reaper's effect is continuous, it still is a triggered activation that has to wait for the effect that targeted him to resolve before his can resolve, destroying him in the process.
