First of all welcome, and we like to have you on board (introduce yourself in the Intro/Farewell sub-forum).

I don't know much about those packs, boxes and structure decks. But I think that those packs you got where on the covers say Asia are Asian playcards (Japanese ones I think). In the United States you may only play with English cards, the US ones and the European ones. I don't know if you can play with other European cards (German,French) in the United States, but I know you can play with German and French cards and some other European language cards in Europa. Someone else here will tell you that :). You can't use Asians cards, the are nice to collect and some of them have pictures who look better :D.

And you got 2 Formats you can play: Traditional or Advanced.
Traditional: It got a restricted list (all cards you can use 3 times except those that are on the restricted list those you can use 1 or 2 cards in your deck).
Advanced. It got a ban list (cards you can't use) and also a restricted list.
Most (allmost all) people play Advanced.
The restricted (and ban list) for both Formats can be found here: http://www.upperdeckentertainment.com/yugioh/en/forbidden.aspx

And about that 1st edition. You got 2 editions: 1st edition they are more worth (for some cards you won't get a lot more but for some cards you get. And then you got Unlimted Edition they are a bitt cheaper.

And to learn how to play you can look here, and if you got questions about that we would like to help you.

We can also help you with building a deck if you'd like. Post you ideas in the Deck Check forum and we can help you.

You can use other language European cards in the US (or indeed anywhere in Europe too), as long as you have proper translations. And of course, they must also have been released in that area (Germany, France, US, etc.) in their appropriate languages.

woweee ty everyone for the nice replies*grin*.ty for explaining the differences between editions.errr i would like to say that i have net only late at night and i sometimes nod off before my scheduled hours,so if i am a bit late in answering, please dont think i am ignoring/being rude.i might not get online everyday.again, ty for the nice welcome:).btw what's with this "duel master's guide"? issat only available on dvd to be purchased separately?

I'm blanking on what the Duel Master's Guide might be exactly. Perhaps it means the flash animation tutorial that you can download at www.yugioh-card.com. Or it could be referring to something that is no longer being released, since we now get Structure Deck instead of Starter Decks. The again, I haven't bought a full on Structure Deck yet, so I might not be aware of something. Gee, I was loads of help, wasn't I? :D

If it is that Flash Animation, then it's also available on DVD, packaged in with various set/card combo packs. I'll tell you this, there are more combination packs for sale at the various retail outlets then you could possibly imagine, so I can't say for sure how it might come to your area, particularly since you live in Asia. But you can see it free on their website for sure.

Oh, and 1st Ed. simply means that you've got the original release of that particular card from the set it was introduced in. When and if the card gets re-released, that spot will simply be blank, regardless of how many times it's been re-released. Reprints are chosen seemingly at random, and there no set limit on how often it will happen. But you can identify a reprint simply by the lack of a "1st Ed" printed on it, and the fact that it will be from a completely different set then it's original release.

Hope that helps. Drop in anytime. We are a pretty international bunch, so time zone differences are understandable. Welcome to the City. :grin_jedi

Wasn't the Duel Master's Guide some kind of video that came in special box sets containing both the Yugi and Kaiba Starter Decks (plus a couple of ancient boother packs)?

The Duel Master's Guide is a video that basically takes one of the older rulebook editions (Version 2 or 3, by the looks of it) and takes you through it as parts of duels. In other words, it literally puts motion pictures and narration to what the rulebook says.

It first came out in the Duel Master's Guide featuring one copy each of the Yugi and Kaiba Starter Decks (re-printed for artwork and card wording changes, including the change from "Magic Card" to "Spell Card"), one Dark Paladin variant card (the 1st Edition MFC mistake artwork), and the Duel Master's Guide DVD.

Later, the DVD got sold individually for about $3.00, but I think it was the same version as the DMG version.

The most recent version of it was released in the 2006 Starter Deck Special Edition (AKA the GX/Jaden Starter, maybe?) just a month or 2 ago. It came with a 2006 Starter Deck, 1 Elemental Hero Sparkman variant card (brand-new artwork, even for Japan), and 1 Duel Master's Guide DVD, slightly updated with opening and ending anime scenes from Yu-Gi-Oh!: GX.

As far as the "Editions" go:

If the "for Asia" packs were all English cards with a different card back (compared to a normal English card), then it cannot be used in official tournament Duels. The back is different, and they were printed by Konami instead of Upper Deck Entertainment. If the back of the card looks like a normal English card, regardless of language, you can use it as long as you have an accurate translation with you (or at least, that was the rule last I checked).
