Exchange of the Spirit & Penguin Knight

master wooo wooo is right.

it says Swap, swap and sending is not the same.

its like Discarding doesnt mean destroy and sending doesnt mean destroy.

key word are all different.

Shouldn't matter. The effect of Penguin Knight isn't looking for an effect to "send" it to the Graveyard from the Deck. It just wan't it to go there. Exchange of the Spirit still sends it there. This isn't a "send" vs "discard" issue. This is merely an effect that want's card to be "here" and go directly to "there". The method it goes there is irrelevant.

if Sangan is sent from the field to the graveyard you search. Doesn't matter if it was tributed, or destroyed, or however else, it was still sent to the graveyard. when the deck and graveyard are swapped, all cards in the graveyard are sent to the deck, and all cards in the deck are sent to the graveyard.

Well DJ, I think this is one that needs a good definitive answer.

Penguin Knight itself wasnt sent. Which for most effects, it pretty much goes hand and hand that "This Card" means "That Card" (Penguin Knight) was sent to the Graveyard.

I guess I'm just not convinced that "swapping" your deck sends anything anywhere. To me, it's more of a "displacement".

I could see if it said, "Swap your deck with your Graveyard by sending cards from your deck to the Graveyard, and your Graveyard to your Deck."

Define "swap". Define "displacement". How else can one "swap" the contents of his deck with his Graveyard if he does not move them there? The problem is, we've been getting too caught up in the "send" vs "discard" issues and we're applying here without precedence. If Night Assailant is destroyed in your hand, but never "sent" to the Graveyard by an effect that "sends", does its effect not activate? If an effect "swapped" Monsters on the field with monsters in the Graveyard, would Sangn's effect not activate?

To be frank, we've never had an effect that indicated "swap" was some kind of seperate game effect. It's way too early to presume it is. Hi, I'm Frank.

Hmmmm...

<Throws the fishing line out in the water....>

Would it also be possible that Penguin Knight never left the deck, and the deck technically is "still" your deck until the effect of Exhange of the Spirit resolves?

<Tugs on line to see if I caught anything...>

<Wraps line around materwo0's neck> NO! :D :D LOL

Honestly, I don't see how Penguin Knight could never be considered to never leave the deck. He starts in one place. And arrives in another. Just because the entire contents joined him doesn't make the deck not the deck anymore.

*Transforms into a giant fish, and pulls masterwoo0 into the water* *yes, you did catch something. However, 'it' caught you too*
Just as DJ said: that the Deck moves together with Penguin, doesn't mean the effect of it stays off-line, lol
IMO, Penguin Knight IS affected by Exchange of the Spirit. Just because it is sent (sending includes being discarted&destroyed) from the Deck immidiately to the Graveyard.

Well, i don think there's a definitive answer to this question yet.

but so far it was posted on the Spanish Judge List that Exchange of the Spirit will trigger the effect of Pinguin Knight, at least this is the way it showld be ruled until Konami said otherwise.

This is the post, hope you don't mind the languaje....too much :p

Hola Gustavo:

Exchange of the Spirit (Trap) You can only activate this card by paying
1000 Life Points while there are 15 or more cards in your Graveyard. Both
players swap the card(s) in their Graveyard with the card(s) in their Deck.
Then, shuffle the card(s) in each new Deck and put it on the Deck Zone.

Saludos

I would think you would have a whole SLEW of monster effects that would trigger from "swapping" deck with graveyard, if Exchange of the Spirit could activate Penguin Knight.

I actually like having a Banisher of the Light and then using Exchange of the Spirit....

But anyway, that would have been noteworthy to post that information on Exchange of the Spirit along with the rest of the Pre-Release info, on whether effects like Penguin Knight, Fear from the Dark, Despair from the Dark, etc... would trigger or not.

Nice to see I can still post something, go to bed, and wake up with 2 pages of discussion on the question with the exact same problems going through my mind whether swapping would count as sending and the like. At least I know now this wasn't something simple I just goofed on not knowing, I should trust myself more by now. ;)
