Exodia Necross, DCR-020

Exodia Necross
(DARK/Spellcaster/4/1800/0)
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by the effect of "Contract with Exodia". This card is not destroyed as a result of battle or by the effects of Spell or Trap Cards, and during each of your Standby Phases, increase the ATK of this card by 500 points. This card is destroyed when any of "Exodia the Forbidden One", "Right Arm of the Forbidden One", "Left Arm of the Forbidden One", "Right Leg of the Forbidden One" or "Left Leg of the Forbidden One" is not in your Graveyard.

Rulings

  1. "Exodia Necross" cannot be Normal Summoned or Set, and cannot be Special Summoned EXCEPT by the effect of "Contract with Exodia". So "Exodia Necross" cannot be Special Summoned with "Monster Reborn", etc., even if Special Summoned properly first.
  2. Players can activate Spell & Trap Card effects that destroy monsters, but "Exodia Necross" will not be destroyed by them.
  3. If a piece of Exodia is removed from the Graveyard while "Exodia Necross" is removed from play due to "Dimensionhole", "Exodia Necross" is destroyed when it returns to the field.
  4. If your opponent takes control of your "Exodia Necross" and does not have all 5 pieces of Exodia in his/her Graveyard, "Exodia Necross" is destroyed if face-up.
  5. While "Skill Drain" is active, "Exodia Necross"' ATK is returned to its original 1800 points. Even if "Skill Drain" then leaves play, "Exodia Necross" does no regain any ATK increases it had because of its effect, but it will begin to accumulate ATK points again.
  6. While "Skill Drain" is active, "Exodia Necross" is not destroyed if Exodia pieces are removed from the Graveyard, but it will be destroyed if the effect of "Skill Drain" disappears.
  7. [Re: Contract with Exodia] When you activate "Contract with Exodia", and your opponent chains "Disappear" to remove a piece of Exodia from your Graveyard, you still Special Summon "Exodia Necross", but "Exodia Necross" is then destroyed because of its effect.
Exodia Necross, your asset for if all parts of your game-winning beast has fallen. Really, I see this more as a fall-back for Exodia decks more than a competitive way to win. I like him a lot though. It's got the capacity to have immense ATK, and it's immune to Traps and Spells. Effect monsters still kill it, though, like Exiled Force, but not Tsukuyomi; it's also not destroyed as a result of a battle, which is nice.

Exodia Necross does have some nice combos. One being that if you have him in conjunction with Necrovalley (an odd addition to any normal Exodia deck) or The End of Anubis (see other parenthesis), you can prevent one of the only ways to destroy him. Another one that I rather like with other monsters like this is using him with a card like Torrential Tribute or Dark Hole (Trad?).

There are a lot of advantages to Exodia Necross. First, not being destroyed with Spells and Traps, or battle makes him immune to a lot of conventional monster removal. The ATK increase is also sure to get to your opponent after a few Standby Phases, and if they cannot destroy him, they're gonna be hurting.

Still, he has his bad points, effect monsters being one of them. As with any nomi, using Compulsory Evacuation Device is out of the question. Book of Moon will help, but not against everything. Also, if an Exodia part leaves the grave, he's gone, but that's easily prevented. Summoning him can be a hard task too, and a major decision. Since you can win with Exodia, why summon him? Which is why I see him as a fallback.

If you do decide to use him instead of winning by Exodia, which is almost unheard of, please do try to use Necrovalley or Anubis just in case, and do try to keep the effect monsters away from him with protection like Book of Moon and Divine Wrath. You have to be serious about him, no joke.

And, obviously, an Exodia deck, or just an Exodia Necross deck is where he belongs. Nowhere else. Ever.

Ratings:
Advanced: 4/5. The only nomi that I can safely rate here. It's easier to summon then you think, and its just so powerful. You should be glad that it's a nomi. >_>
Traditional: 2/5. Sadly, the rating doesn't carry over to here, because of CED and Monster Reborn.
Limited: --/5. Impossible to use him here. DCR has no Exodia parts.
Sealed: 1/5. If you pull 5 Exodia parts? Near impossible here.

Excellent Review.... I also feel that Exodia Necross is an incredibly useful monster.... along with Necrovalley or End of Anubis, he has little to fear.... I would also throw Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer in this deck... just to make sure....
Very solid card, and even though it is NOMI... It can be a very solid deck.... especially if you concentrate on its strengths and protect its limited weaknesses...

excellant review, i do actually use necross in my gravekeepers deck and it works with a great amount of success and it is very very nasty if u can get him out early and keep him out as most people start putting monsters in defence to stop the insane amount of damage he inflicts which combines excellant with g/k spear soldier and assailant incase of high def monsters, when i have a chance i will put a d/l in the advanced section for you lot to look at and comment on :)

Just wondering, could one compolsury evactuaction device a necross, because it does not destroy it, only returns it, it is the same argument as trunading a spell that has a magic reflector counter on it, it's not being destroyed, so its effect is not applied. I would love to see someone use necross then it getting whomped by a paltry evacuation device.

well this is what it says in the first post so it's a no shame though!!!

It can be returned to the hand by Compulsory, but then your summoning conditions are reset. There is nothing preventing you from using a Spell or Trap Card on Exodia. It's only immune to being destroyed by one. What Chaos General meant was that the summoning conditions are reset, so you'd have to play Contract with Exodia again. What he means is it's not worth it. But you can certainly move your opponent out of the way. Even remove it from play if the effect doesn't destroy.
