Is Yugioh slowing down?

Probably just seems that way as Dark Rev 2 is just a reprint, when the series it's a reprint of aren't that old, and CRV just wasn't that great a seller as alot of the common/common rare cards don't interest people. Wait until EEN comes out and we'll see how sales go for that.

Yes, it is slowing down. Personally, I blame GX's suckiness on it because GX just kills your mood to play the game. Okay, maybe that isn't entirely true, but I still blame GX. :p Seriously though, every thing must fall some time. Look at magic, it was this big thing 4-5 years ago, and now you don't hear about it as often (fortunately).

All games go through a procedure where they have phenominal success for a short while, then eventually it evens out. Pokemon was the same and I am sure the same applies to Magic: The Gathering and so many others. The novelty of Yu-Gi-Oh is wearing off now and the game is changing. The game will contain the die hard fans and newer players coming to the game won't be as intense. But don't let that put you off the game, it could change all over again.

GX is trying to bring back the glory days of old and focus the game with the TV Series. Personally I think that will make the game a bit boring since the majority of monsters could end up being Elemental Heros or monsters from players in the game (more or less going back to what it was before with Character Structure Decks). I think the producers of the game should now look at the game and work from there.

The problem with g/x is it is just flat out boring. "I'll throw down a face down" is a rather 5-year-old rhyme IMHO, and becomes a 2-year-old rhyme when you add that wierd accented syllable thingy that they use. But more importantly, we are now seeing some of the dumbest cards come out that will further wreck the metagame. I apologize if I offend anyone by saying this, but the e-heroes are, for lack of a more mature word (sorry sirch) just plain stupid. I'll try to elaborate on that. When this game was created, it had no theme. The idea of the game was to get as many Blue-Eyes White Dragons on the field as you could, as fast as possible, and hope you don't hit a Man-Eater Bug. Then, with the release of some later sets, we got elemental support, like Giant Rat (and company) and Hoshiningen (and company). Gradually, we began working our way towards themed decks, like Dark Necrofear-based fiendism, or Lord of D.-based dragonics. Then, with the release of IOC, everything collapsed. No one used elemental decks, or type decks, or anything. The idea was to get a many lights and darks in the grave as possible, and then just end the duel. After a lot of recovering time (and some handy-dandy bannings) we had managed, for a while, to get the meta back to where it was supposed to be, with synergy playing a leading role. Then along comes the fancy-smanshy ole' E-heros, and they just mess it all up. Suddenly, all of our new sets contain almost no decent cards to boost our decks with (booster packs don't boost our decks?) and why? Because the booster cards are displaced by support for this new idea that everybody is now supposed to get into, just because the adorable new main character uses them. Where was my fiend support? I got all of one decent card out of CRV, and that was Cyber Archfiend. To make matters worse, EEN will contain TWO new themes: Dark Realm and E-hero. Where will my traditional-style small fiends deck be in all of this? Nowhere. Why can't anybody make some more type-based or element-based support, like how Flaming eternity boosted beasts, and TLM boosted rocks/earths? I apologize for my semi-off topic rant. </venting>

I agree, lets get some more type support into the game again and try to get more support for other types that have been forgotten like plant and thunder. Thunder is still a remarkably powerful effect and it's potential is just sitting there, waiting to be tapped. Why do we need 3 new god cards that are going to be heaviliy abused from Shadows of Infinity in future decks, lets make all deck types equal, that should be the goal.

Indeed it should. I have always believed things like Amazons and Archfiends should not have been created before thunder and plant got any actual play. I mean, I understand the need to have themes other than just type and attribute, HOWEVER, when there are types being totally rejected by the community (Winged Beast, Beast-Warrior, Insect, Plant, Thunder, Dinosaur, Sea Serpent, Aqua, Pyro, Fish) it really seems like THOSE should be the focus, not new themes. What's even more ridiculous is that Konami has been making cards of those types that see play (Sacred Phoenix, Enraged Battle Ox, Thunder Dragon, Dark Driceratops, etc.) but not giving them any support! These cards just get splashed in to the next cookie-cutter-aggro deal, and never are respected for who they are, just what they do. And then, of course, when they want to make a card and don't know what type it should be, they make it a warrior or fiend (BLS, the three new gods, Gate Guardian, etc.) and so make those already-supported types even more broken... *sigh*

Not that I'm a super-duper fan of the E-Heros or anything, but in their defense, they are fun to play with/against. I know that every one of us is getting sick of the contents of the new sets and their lack of synergy with most current deck-types, but you have to understand that the purpose of any game is to have fun. Up until recent sets, I'd only been judging because of the extremely boring metagame (i. e. pre BLS ban). But now that the E-Heros, Vehicroids, Cyber Dragons and such have been released, I've seen a dramatic transformation in the game. In the most recent string of Regional Tournaments, I've noticed that a lot of competitors are much more cheerful while playing. Even in the finals in Charlotte, the players were able to poke fun at each other and get away with it, wheras in the old days, you could hardly get a smirk out of most people.

pssvr, I agree with you whole heartedly on the issue of undersupported themes. I've personally wanted to expound on the Thunder-type abilities for a while now (Batterymen, Zaborg, etc.). But, until we get that support, we need to wait patiently. Konami is a rather difficult company to deal with, so we just have to bide our time, suck it up, and appreciate what we do have.

Where am I going with this? I feel that the release of these new sets has released a bit of tension from the game in a very therapeutic manner. If the game is slowing down, I'd say that it's due to the relaxed state the game is in. Everyone one knows that to keep from burning out you have to slow down and take it easy for a while. Otherwise you'll self-destruct from the inside out.

Your defense is duly noted. And yes, they ARE fun. But you know what's even more fun? Watching the deck you've been working on for a year and a half (almost the whole time I've played YGO) get stronger as time goes on. And that hasn't happened since the release of Cyber Archfiend, didn't happen for a while beofre that, and won't happen for some time to come. The game is relaxed, you are right. And it might be that this is just a lull, to let people experiment now that BLS is no longer wrecking our lives. But if so, then why the release of Phoenix, Brain Control, Cyber Dragon, and all these broken up and coming monsters? We might end up in a worse situation than before. Before, we had themed brokenness, although not themed the way it was intended. NOW, we have UNTHEMED brokenness. If the authors of the decks don't mind too much, I'd like to point out "Beat Down Raged Attack", "Aggressive Heart Attack", and finally "Another Boring Deck", all of which could be tier 1, and yet really do lack a theme, IMHO.

Everyone seems to agree that it is fun again. I agree: it is. But only if you have the latest, often broken cards. If you aren't able to get the newest cards, and you are crushed every time, then you'll start playing less and less...And that IMO is one of the reasons why less and less people are playing, because it is going to a multiple-chaos-time again a.k.a just one or a few Deck styles who rule supreme. And I guess that wasn't the meaning of Konami. However... it has been a brainless moment of Konami again, it seems to be, when they introduced the new boosters.

As far as lull's in the game. There's always a lull right before the release of a new set. Namely because most people are saving thier money for the new cards.

Now I feel I must defend myself. My, Another Boring Deck, is just a fill in till I get my Ancient Gear Golem deck up and running.

Now as for undersupported themes, I agree. They need to support them, but let's face it. If it hasn't happened yet its probably not going to happen for a while.

No defense necessary, sir. I was not attempting to insult you or your deck, and my apologies if it came across that way. The intent was not to flame your deck for being mostly themeless, but rather to flame Konami for ALLOWING the creation of effective, yet mostly themeless decks. In other words, sir, I do not resent your deck, only the force which caused you to make it.

I think the newer sets that have been released were intended to be almost stand-alone (sometimes with one or two other sets, like the E-Heroes). That is, if you throw a bunch of cards from one set into a Deck, and maybe add a couple of cards from elsewhere, you'll have a fairly playable Deck. It's not like the old days where you got Cave Dragon, Gradius' Option, Otohime and Ryu-Kishin Clown in the same set (Legacy of Darkness, by the way). Those were mostly just a random splash of cards which allowed several possible Deck types to be made at the same time.

Nowadays they can afford to be a bit more specific about what each set supports, mainly because there are quite a few sets available now. One set will support Rocks, another Machines, and every so often something new is thrown in to keep things interesting (E-Heroes, Dark Realm, etc.).

While it would be nice to see more wide-range support for some of the lesser types, I don't think that'll much happen (unless we get Lightning Lord cards or something), because basically Warriors and Spellcasters are simply more interesting than Plants. I'm afraid so. Plus it's probably a lot easier to create some random "person card" (a picture of a person instead of an Insect or a Fish) and call it a Warrior than it is to invent some Plant-looking thing.

With the invention of the Ban List things have instantly become a lot more difficult with respect to weaker Monster Types. Creating a load of cards to help out the poor Dinosaurs probably wouldn't go down well with everyone who prefers their Spellcasters, but similarly creating just one really powerful card for that Deck Type (Field Spell, "All Dinosaurs gain +600/+500 and Targeting Trap Immunity") would somehow be frowned upon and banned very quickly. So what's the point?

We just need to convince people that there's more to the game than a bunch of similar-looking guys in armour swinging at each other with similar-looking swords. Maybe then they'll start looking around at the other dozen Monster Types they've overlooked. Or, ideally, hope Konami learn all this themselves and swing around to the poor Deck types without listening to complaints. It seems they've had much practise at not listening to arguments anyway...

Maruno: Or maybe we could just all go and boycott warriors, and have everyone in the world play thunder, plant, and Beast-warrior decks. Heh. They might actually listen if we did that. Imagine what might happen if someone took a plant deck to a regionals and won. 3x Prickle Fairy and 3 Lord Poison actually makes for decent field presence... 3x Gilasaurus, 3x Mad Sword Beast, 3x black tyrrano, 3x Gigantes, 3x The Rock Spirit, 3x tyrranno infinity... *is suddenly on a roll*

The extension of the E-Hero cards is similar to how the Silent Swordsman series was laid out. Maybe some of the super fusions supports could have been released closer to the original release of Burstinatrix, Avian, and the others. Maybe some of the Fusions could have been released as Promo cards in Shonen Jump, or a video game. But the point is moot now. It is also focusing on the negative.

I would love to see Fish become a stand alone type, as well as the others mentioned. But I am still heartened to see that the trend that was started back in the days of Pharonic Guardian, is starting to pick up.

Gravekeepers: all in one set

Amazoness: missing only one, which came later as a promo

Archfiends: all in one set, with a splash card here and there. (also helped to support some faltering earlier releases, like Summoned Skull, Lesser Fiend, Beast of Talwar, B.Skull Dragon, and Fiend Skull Dragon)

Agents: All in one expansion

Horus and Armed Dragon: All in one expansion

Dark Realm: All in one expansion

Mystic Swordsman, Silent Swordsman, Ultimate Insect, Elemental Heros: all examples of support for a theme that is closely spaced between expansions.

TLM=Rocks;FET=Beasts;CRV=Machine; Pharonic Guardian=Zombies;Magician's Force=Spellcaster; IOC=RFP support*: very closely aligned support cards.

*it seems unfair to judge an entire set by its abberations. Sure it had the Chaos Twins, but it also brought us Chaos Necromancer, Gren Maju De Eiza, Chaosrider Gustaph, and a whole bunch more.

If we really want to complain about the continuous support over and over again of cards, why not complain about the Ojama set. We've been getting cards from that since way back in IOC. :p They are still making more AND it still isn't being played! Talk about beating a dead horse.

Ojama's started in Dark Crisis with Ojama Green and Ojama Trio. They just finished off the set in IOC with Yellow and Black.

As far as Yugioh Slowing Down, I gotta admit, I'm only moderately excited about GX. There are times I am at home and not really watching anything in particular on TV at the time it comes on, and still don't watch it. It's just not the same without the Name recognition of its Main Character.

I mean, what would Gilligan's Island be without Gilligan?? Scooby-Doo, without Shaggy??? Oreo Cookies without Milk? There are just some things that you cant tinker with and expect immediate success.

Gilligans island with out gilligan = not intended for children, mature audiences only.
Scooby-doo with out shaggy = one less pot head on T.V.
Oreos without milk = "got milk" commercials

and yea game is slowing down :)

Krazy.... That's what kills me about the younger generation. They know so little about the history of Television.

There once was a Gilligans Island TV Show back in the old days, you know, before the "70's".... Before Compact Disc and DVD's.

Even before reality shows killed TV.
