King of the Skull Servants/Shadow Ghoul

Just 2 more cards to go. *sigh* Now I know why CotD-reviewers don't review every day (no offense meant). Today: Shadow Ghoul&King of the Skull Servants. Another day with weird cards.

Shadow Ghoul
MRD-EN090 / DB2-EN055
Zombie / DARK / Level 5 / 1600 ATK / 1300 DEF / Effect

Increase the ATK of this monster by 100 points for every monster in your Graveyard.

Rulings:
1) [Re: Lost Guardian] Whenever the number of your monsters removed from play changes, re-calculate the DEF of "Lost Guardian". (Just like "Shadow Ghoul", etc.)

2) [Re: Necrovalley] "Necrovalley" will NOT negate effects that are activated when a card is sent TO the Graveyard or that activate IN the Graveyard or that count cards in the Graveyard. So it will NOT negate the effects of "Sangan", "Witch of the Black Forest", "Black Pendant", "Giant Rat", "Mystic Tomato", "Kuriboh", "Graceful Charity", "Sinister Serpent", "Marie the Fallen One", "Buster Blader", "Shadow Ghoul", "Helpoemer", "Sword of Deep-Seated", "Vampire Lord", "Coffin Seller", and "Magical Thorn"

King of the Skull Servants
TLM-EN032
Zombie / DARK / Level 1 / ? ATK / 0 DEF / Effect

The original ATK of this card becomes the number of "King of the Skull Servants" and "Skull Servant" in your Graveyard x 1000 points. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard as a result of a battle, remove from play 1 other "King of the Skull Servants" or "Skull Servant" card in your Graveyard to Special Summon this card.

Rulings:
1) The original ATK of "King of the Skull Servants" is determined by its effect. This is further doubled/halved by "Megamorph" and other effects that are based off of original ATK. If the number of "Skull Servant" and "King of the Skull Servants" cards in your Graveyard changes, re-calculate the original ATK of "King of the Skull Servants", then re-apply the effect of "Megamorph". If you have "King of the Skull Servants" with an original ATK of 2000 (2 "Skull Servant" cards in your Graveyard), and you equip it with "Megamorph", its original ATK will be 4000 when your Life Points are lower, and 1000 when your Life Points are higher.

2) Since the ATK of this card is ?, it cannot be Special Summoned by the effect of "Mystic Tomato".

3) Removing from play 1 "Skull Servant" or "King of the Skull Servants" to Special Summon a "King of the Skull Servants" is a cost.

4) [Re: Elemental Hero Thunder Giant] Likewise, if the effect of "Elemental Hero Thunder Giant" is activated, targeting "King of the Skull Servants" with 2000 original ATK, and the opponent chains "Curse of Aging" and discards "Skull Servant" to activate it, then "King of the Skull Servants" has 3000 original ATK and is not destroyed

That were all the rulings for those cards. I'd like to thank sirch1964 and chaos general, because they were the first who introduced a Deck with King of the Skull Servants.

Shadow Ghoul is a card that is strong during the end of a Duel, when you have much monsters in the Graveyard. With 10 monsters in your Graveyard, it increases it ATK with 1000 points, for a total of 2600 ATK points.
He CAN be searched with Pyramid Turtle. But is he worth it?

The King of the Skull Servants is a card that is strong with much Skull Servants and King of the Skull Servants in the Graveyard. It goes rapidly up: with 3 Skull Servants in the Graveyard, the Level 1 King has a ATK of 3000.
He can be searched with Pyramid Turtle.

Pro's of Shadow Ghoul:
- Nice effect
- Zombie, so he has support

Con's of Shadow Ghoul:
- Just 1600 ATK for a Tribute monster!
- His ATK goes up very slowly.

Pro's of King of the Skull Servants:
- Nice effect
- Level 1
- ATK goes up rapidly
- Zombie, so a great support

Con's of King of the Skull Servant:
- He has to wait till the Graveyard fills up

Now, the ratings:
Shadow Ghoul in Advanced Format: 2/5, rather weak
Shadow Ghoul in Traditional Format: 1/5, totally useless
Shadow Ghoul Graphics: 1/5, not creative at all

King of the Skull Servants in Advanced Format: 4/5, don't understimate the combination of Level 1 and such a effect
King of the Skull Servants in Traditional Format: 2/5, monsters who totally outrow him are in here
King of the Skull Servants Graphics: 3/5. Looks like a Skull Servant, with something king-like. Nice

The Deck? Zombie. Normal kind of Zombie? Absolutely not.

Not to be disheartening, but if most people play a 17-19 Monster to Spell/Trap Cards, Shadow Ghoul is only going to break the bank if you have nearly all your monsters in the Graveyard.

Can you afford to wait until you get 10 monsters in your Graveyard to power up this card?? A late game savior is not likely to happen with this monster, especially if you come up against a Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer or Chaos Sorcerer.

The Deck you designed for him to be used in will definitely flood your Graveyard with monsters, but at what expense?

You also gave him a "2" rating in Advanced?? He probably gets that "High" in Traditional since your opponent has a larger card pool to select from to help you get your monsters in the Graveyard, if he doesnt kill you first. Advanced, he gets a 0 from me, Traditional, No consideration, there are better cards that dont require as much support.

Some cards are better left in your binder or for use in casual play, no matter how accomodating the Ban looks.

2 years ago, this "might" have been a rather decent effect, now, it's an obscure card many people "probably" have, but probably dont even know where 95% of their Metal Raiders cards are past Mirror Force, Heavy Storm, Sangan, Witch of the Black Forest, Magician of Faith, Mask of Darkness, Seven Tools of the Bandit, Soul Release, Tribute to The Doomed, Solemn Judgment, and a couple other decent cards.

I don't know. I have have some success with Shadow Ghoul. It is a weak card but if you use it as a middle of the game/late game reactionary card, it seems to work fine. Other than that, I agree that the card basically sucks.

King of the Skull Servants though is a totally different thing. It really isn't that tough to get Skull Servants and other King of the Skull Servants to the Graveyard. Your opponent could suddenly be looking at a 5000 attk monster just because they (or even you) used Card Destruction at the wrong (or right in the later case) time. This is such an overlooked card. I have used it in a few of my Zombie decks. To see your opponents face when they figure out what you are doing is classic. The only downfall is Kycoo and Soul Release.

The combination of King of the Skull Servants and Shadow Ghoul in the same deck would be quite risky, especially if kycoo and Soul Release are played. Find some other Zombies might be the way to go in the case of Shadow Ghoul but I still believe King is a must in any beginners zombie deck.

I know. When I was looking around for possible review-cards, it looked like great. But at the review... man... I tried to make it positive, but it doesn't like it myself. You're right on the point of Shadow Ghoul. I start to like Shadow Ghoul less and less...

EDIT: Tonight, I'll finish the last of the Post-ban 'celebration' series. Come and look tonight at the review for total field control: Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 and Sorcerer of Dark Magic!

I also think that Chaos Necromancer is a lot better than Shadow Ghoul...

And then I know that King of the Skull Servants is better than both of them :D. Since of course 1) It has the stat boosting effect, but much easier to use and 5000 ATK isn't that bad (at all), 2) It's a 1-star, like Necromancer, and we all know what that means, and 3) It can revive itself. I've found that it can be great stall with that effect, and a great way to abuse Card of Safe Return.

I'm not a big fan of Shadow Ghoul. By the time it hits decent attack (which I qualify, for a 1-tribute monster, to be 2400), you can just drop a Chaos Necromancer, no tributes needed, at the same attack.

King of the Skull Servants, though, gets sick. I have three words for him: Opti-Comoflage Armor. I lost to that combo once.
And who uses a tribute for its attack, anyway? I mean, if you want a single tribute monster with high attack, you're gonna opt for Great Maju Garzett, right? So who would even use Shadow Ghoul?
