second opinion

ok this was asked on another forum. i said no i need a quick second opinion.


the person I played aginst summoned Spell Canceller to the field using Soul Exchange. Sending my LVL 8 Despair from the Dark to the graveyard. Once Soul Exchange sent my Despair from the Dark to the graveyard i used my set quick spell, A Deal with Dark Ruler summing Beserk Dragon. Is that possible?

Was it chained to the activation of Soul Exchange? If not, you got a BIG problem, because Spell Canceller negates it then.
Also, Soul Exchange didn't send it to the Graveyard, but the PLAYER (opponent) does... bit of important difference.

I think he tried simly responding to his monster being sent to the graveyard. I tried talking things round but he didnt seem to understand and doesnt seem to believe me. Thats why i wants a second opinion.

There is no opportunity to respond to the monster being tributed.

When he would respond to the sending, he was too late. Then Spell Cancellers effect, although not on the field yet, applies.

Actually, you either chain to Soul Exchange, and in this case, you cant because it hasnt been sent yet, and the correct statement is, "when a player is in the process of performing a tribue summon, the opponent may not activate the effect of a Spell or Trap Card until the monster is successfully summoned to the field."

Once Despair from the Dark was sent to the Graveyard, and the Tribute Summon was completed, then A Deal with Dark Ruler could be activated but Spell Canceller is now active and negates the activation of Spell Cards.
