Shift vs Offerings to the Doomed

To the best of my knowledge, "Shift" would require that the target you are Shifting the effect to be a valid one. So in your scenario, you couldn't Shift it to a face-down monster.

I should know better than to argue with you d_x. however, the simple text of Shift only states to Shift the targetted effect to another monster. But it doesnt specify that the new monster must meet the same activation requirements as the first targetted monster.

based off of ruling #2 for Offerings:

I would say that Shift-ing the target to another monster that is face down will cause Offerings to the Doomed to resolve without effect. And the activation condition, of foregoing the next Draw Phase, will continue.

That's different in that the target WAS valid at activation but wasn't during resolution. The other situation is talking about trying to pick an invalid target to start with.

Seeing as this is the "Shift" thread, I hope CerezSypher wont mind me attaching this:

Could someone break down the reasons why Shift has the particular ruling, here:
[Re: Dark Necrofear] "Tailor of the Fickle" or "Collected Power" can be used to move "Dark Necrofear" from one monster to another after it is an Equip Spell Card. "Fairy's Hand Mirror" or "Shift" cannot be used when "Dark Necrofear" first becomes and Equip Spell Card and is equipped to your opponent's monster.

Is it simply because Dark Necrofear targets a monster on the opposing side? Why cant my opponent use it when my Dark Necrofear targets one of their monsters?

Because it is a Monster Effect at the time it targets.

It transforms into an Equip Spell Card when the effect resolves and DN attaches itself.

Shift can only redirect a Spell, Trap, or attack.
