skill drain vs double coston

If Skill Drain is active, will you still be able to use the effect of Double Coston? I am not sure if Double Coston's effect is happening while it is on the field or in the graveyard.

Think of it more like Elemental Mistress Doriado's being Wind, Water, Fire & Earth as well as Light whether it is in your hand, in the graveyard or on the field. If Skill Drain is active she is only Light while face up on the field because her effect is being negated in that situation. When you want to use the effect of Abyss Soldier you must have a water monster in your hand (or Elemental Mistress Doriado) in order to "activate" his effect. When you want to activate Fuh-Rin-Ka-Zan you must have 4 monsters with each of the proper elements face up on the field (or Elemental Mistress Doriado). When you want to summon a LV7 or higher Light monster you must have 2 monsters that can be tributed on the field (or Kaiser Seahorse who when he is not being negated counts as 2 tributes). The monster being summoned doesn't care if the monsters that are tributed for him are face-up or face-down it just needs the proper number of tributes. So Blue Eyes looks at the field and sees monsters, face-up, face-down, it is just looking for 2 monsters who don't have a restriction that they can't be used for a tribute summon (like Fox Fire or Scapegoats). With the continuous effect of Kaiser Sea Horse he counts as 2 tributes when used for a tribute summon and thus allows Blue Eyes to be summoned with only him as a tribute.

Speaking of Fox Fire, that is a continuous effect that prevents being used a a tribute summon. So whether he is face-up or face-down he can't be used as a tribute to get out a LV 5 or 6 or as one of the tributes for a LV 7 or higher. Yet, if Skill Drain is active you can tribute a face-up Fox Fire for a tribute summon. But you still may not tribute him if he is face-down.

That Fox Fire vs. Skill Drain situation and tributing it face up vs face down makes a lot of sense here! The ability is still built in when face down, but when face up on the field, Skill Drain negates the ability.

This means that Kaiser would be able to be tributed from the field while face down for a 2 tribute monster. New ideas.....maybe.....

As far as I have seen this one coming, they are still devising a proper way of explaining this type of scenarios, since once it is the middle of chains and resolutions, things tend to get really messy in ruling properly, and that is too much thinking altogether for one card's effect. Up to now, I see that it should be like this: the cards being required to be face up in order to properly bring the 2 tribute monster, regardless of Skill Drain on the field, although my opinion is just that, my opinion, however i do follow that we use them face down and all that as everyone else is doing so far, but that was my two cents on the topic

OMG, someone just kill me.

It is a continuous effect so it has nothing to do with "middle of chains". Kaibaman and Red-Eyes B. Chick must be face-up because they actually have to activate their effect to tribute themselves, Double Coston and the other 2-trib monsters don't have to be face up because they are being tributed by the 7+ star monster that is coming to the field. Skill Drain will prevent the monster in hand from seeing the Double Coston's effect if it is face-up and thus it can't be selected as the sole tribute to satisfy the summon condition for the 7+ star monster.

Might I add that Double Coston face down or up while Skill Drain is on the field will not be seen from the monster attempting to see its effect for the summoning condition. Since Skill Drain negates face down as well as face up.

Pay 1000 Life Points. As long as this card remains on the field, the effects of all face-up Effect Monsters on the field are negated.

It doesn't say anything about face-down monsters ;)
