Yeah, basically, he shift through his cards, like freaking 30 of them into his graveyard while paying LP do to so to get 8000LP difference (He also have some life increasers to your foe, like Upstart Goblin) And then he combos Life Equalizer (When your LP is at least 8000 or more lower then your foe, both player's LP become 3000) and Blasting the Ruins (Have more then 30 cards in your graveyard, your foe takes 3000LP damage) for a OTK... WTF!

Just read the actual match of how is combo works. I'm actually rooting for him to get to the top 8. Or at least the metagames to post his deck design after this is over so that I can study it. ^^

This deck reminds me so much of DMoC OTK, you literally need Spell Canceller in your sidedeck or your screwed.
 
i'm glad to see that there's more ppl with originality in Nationals...especially one with a deck made mostly of common cards..thats pure pwnage rite there...
 
A brilliant deck indeed. It seems he ended up with 9th overall. Simply amazing. Good on ya, boy.
 
What can I say? I just read through the articles and couldnt stop grinning, and occaisionally breaking into laughter. I am still grinning even now. Just delightful!

This is such a great idea! And a great player for puilling this off at nationals. Major kudos to the man, I hope we hear more from him.
 
I hope i never have to face him i would be getting bored just sitting there watching my oppenent draw!!!
 
It's as I suspected. Originality can win out. As long as you take it seriously. I'm sure he didn't make that deck competitive by consistently calling it a "fun" deck.
 
That is really amazing. Also, I have to shout out to Austin (the 11 year old top-8er) and I'm rooting for him. He's a great kid and I've played him a lot at my store (and he almost always beats me!).

But this deck really makes me want to build that all out Dark World OTK, never mind the CC support cards.

Hopefully this will inspire others to bring more original decks to big tournaments.
 
Ya know what other card would have been perfect for this deck, Exchange of the Spirits. Man, that would have kicked ass with this deck design. (Your foe loses at their next draw phase cause of deck-out) Too bad for him that it's banned.
 
its got my vote, good deck, to bad he didnt get top 8, if it did, it would have caused a shock in the meta, but hey CyberJar OTK started like that and suddenly it was taking out players like Take out.
 
I'm struck by the blatant ignorance of the established Spell/Trap to Monster ratios that are the only established workable builds in Yu-Gi-Oh! decks. Yes, I'm being sarcastic. :D 2 Traps. Ha!. Your supposed to run 36 traps like I do. :p
 
All I can say is... nice deck!! He has the exact opposite build of a deck I used to play on YVD right after the October Ban. Mine was a Life Gainer, but it was just an annoyance deck until I could really figure out what to do with it. Sometimes I would toss in Cyber-Stein, and other times Fire Princess.

It's almost funny since when I got my box for the Pre-Release and saw that card, I was joking with my Son about using it in my Spell Deck.

He'll bring out a few people to try it, but I dont think it will be largely copied.
 
It simply amazes me how every card or effect he played one after another helped pave the way for his winning move, and he certainly did a lot leading up to it. Being able to choreograph such a complex strategy definitely shows both his dueling and deck building skills.

I love his reasoning. He does on a big stage, too. Extra points for courage.

And huge kudos to Austin. I read the duel article and he just really knows how to duel.

surely this is an example of what the game should be about, instead of the cookie cutters and chaos thats so dominant now... sure, you want to win... but that doesnt mean that you all use the same deck to do it...

have i mentioned i hate the idea of staples?
 
Staples are just common grounds for a deck idea.

in magic if i run green most of the time Sakura-Tribe Elder is a staple to the deck, why? cuase its land fetcher, but if im running Mono blue how will Sakura-Tribe Elder even help me? heck i wouldnt even be able to cast it.

but thats the problem that Yugi has that Magic doesnt, Unlike Magic were stuff is stuck in its location unless you start mixing colors for Yugi it doesnt matter if it fits the theme itll always do good. because the card works on a stand alone basis not on a you do something to get me out there.
 
Vincent Tundo did not end up 9th overall. Brian Perez was 9th place. This I know because Brian Perez who incidentally was a friend of mine was playing at table 1 on the last round and lost to Miguel Flores. He was a little emotional afterwards. I would be too.
