Tribute Doll
Normal Spell

Tribute 1 monster on your side of the field to activate this card. Special Summon 1 Level 7 monster that can be Normal Summoned from your hand. That monster cannot attack this turn.

"¢ You can combine "Soul Exchange" with "Tribute Doll" to Tribute your opponent's monster as the cost of "Tribute Doll".

Where this becomes interesting is that the monster selected by Soul Exchange is the activation cost for Tribute Doll. It's already been Tributed well before you got a chance to activate Interdimensional Matter Transporter. At least, that's my opinion anyway.

edit: geez, you hit "reply" and by the time you check your facts, everyone else has already beaten ya :D Another reason why this is the greatest forum out there!!

Obviously it's very much going to depend on what order the cards were played in.

Let's look at a couple of different scenarios...

Scenario #1
Soul Echange Chain link 1
IMT Chain Link 2

Chain Reloves

Tribute Doll is activated but the moster Soul Exhange targeted is not long on the field and is unavailable to pay the cost.

Scenario #2

Soul Exchange is activated and resolves.
Tribute Doll is activated and the cost is paid using Soul Exchange's effect....
it's now the timing is incorrect to activate IMT since the monster you wanted to remove from play is no longer on the field (sent to the graveyard as a COST)

He's saying that he played IMT after Soul Exchange. How exactly did his opponent get priority to play another Spell Speed 1 after Soul Exchange?

If he chained Interdimensional Matter Transporter to Soul Exchange wouldn't Soul Exchanges effect have "fizzled", as everyone likes to put it?

Now if he just let Soul Exchange resolve and didn't think to chain to it before Tribute Doll could be played, thats one thing. But in his second post up there he says that he played Interdimensional Matter Transporter AFTER Soul Exchange resolved. So I'm presuming it was played in chain. What is his opponent tributing for Tribute Doll? A monster that isn't even on the field anymore?

So scenario 1: You chain IMT to Soul Exchange and unless you have another monster on the field the conditions would not exist for your opponent to activate Tribute Doll at all.

Scenario 2: You activate a response chain to Soul Exchange resolving and unless your opponent has something like Mystik Wok or an already face-up Ultimate Offering your X-Head will still be RFP before your opponent could activate Tribute Doll, thus there wouldn't be a chance for him to use Tribute Doll this way either.

Scenario 3: Soul Exchange has already resolved and your opponent activates Tribute Doll sending your X-Head to the grave and you can't chain with IMT because it is not on the field to be targeted.

Pretty much any way you want to go (unless there are other cards on the field that haven't been included in your question at least 1 of these cards is being illegally activated.

From both posts I read, I understood he made a chain to Soul Exchange (so Soul Exchange didn't resolve) and the timing of Tribute Doll was completely illegal. That is what I understand of it.

Thats what I thought. I didn't think he could play Tribute Doll afetr Soul Exchange. But its get complicated he had no lv 5 or 6s in his hand so if Soul Exchange destroyed the monster how would he get a level 7 out without a tribute?
Wait, back up. Soul Exchange doesn't "destroy" a monster. If he successfully played Soul Exchange and you did not chain or activate IMT in a response chain after Soul Exchange resolved and it was again up to him to start a chain and he has a Level 7 monster in hand and activates Tribute Doll your monster will be tributed by Tribute Doll (using the effect of Soul Exchange) as a cost before you could activate IMT to prevent it from being tributed. That would be a legal play.

Another point...
In this post, people were confused from the start of the post:
because of the original post (Soul Exchange- IMT - Tribute Doll) was 'mixed up' with the 2nd thing (Soul Exchange - Tribute Doll).
Anthony, you actually make it now more difficult to follow all what is said.

Yet in reality, we still have not gotten a clear answer from the poster on how the cards went down. It seems as thought Soul Exchange was activated, and chained to with IMT. Then, apparently, Tribute Doll was illegally activated, since there was nothing to tribute. But we're not sure on that.

PS I need to get some lotion, the dry cold weather is killing me.

All I was attempting to determine is in what order things have occurred. We all know it is incorrect gameplay to "jump the gun" playing cards without waiting for the opponent to chain or responding to a summon without allowing them to activate the effect. That sounds like what is happening here. The opponent played 2 spell speed 1 cards without giving the opportunity to chain and so IMT got squeezed in behind Soul Exchange making it illegal to play Tribute Doll (unless the opponent has a monster of their own to tribute - since we haven't gotten any direct affirmation from UDE that you can or cannot tribute a monster on your own side of the field once Soul Exchange has resolved.)
