Weird Ruling.

At my local Tournament last weekend a player was talking to me about a deck he had seen on a popular website(I can't remember the name but It may have been Pojo). The deck was based around using Stumbling along with Morphing Jar #2's because they feel a monster special summoned through Morphing #2 will go face up due to Stumbling's effect. I sat down and read Stumbling and it does say any special summon will go into face up defence. So the question is will this work and will any monster special summoned through Cyber Jar or Morphing Jar #2 be forced into face up defence mode causing their effects to occur?

Thanks in advance.

Stumbling's effect only applies to monsters in Attack position:

Flipping a monster face-up (or face-down) has never been a "change" of position, and Stumbling specifically says a monster's position is "changed"

Thank you for clarifying that. Some of the card text is a bit iffy though as a natural result of English and Japanese having diffrent "maps" regarding structured thought. I'm still 50/50 on that (remember the debate over using the tribute given to you by Soul Exchange for your face up Cannon Soldier?).

It wouldn't work anyway because Morphing Jar #2's effect special summons monsters in face down defense. It won't change them face up because Stumbling doesn't say that specifically that it will change those monsters to face up.

The second ruling is referening to when the monster is being summoned face up.

So to answer your question, Morphing Jar #2 and Stumbling will not work together because Stumbling doesn't change the face down monsters that were special summoned via Morphing Jar #2 face up attack position.

If we can't really get a clear cut answer on this we can always send it through the judge mailing list. Get a solid answer on it. But I say it doesn't work.

it doesnt work with MJ2, the combination revolves around Cyberjar and having monsters summoned in face up attack mode.

since it is the moment their are being special summoned because of Stumbling thouse face up monsters will turn to face up defense.

all monsters that were set stay set, since its the same as you manually setting them during main phase 1 or 2.

just think about it this way, while Stumbling is face up and you set a Magician of Faith does it flip up and go to defense?

no. because your setting not summoning.

And DaGuy and Anothnyj makes a good point. The card never stated that monsters are flipped. It only says that they are changed to Defense Position which is where Morphing Jar #2 puts them in the first place. Flipping them face up is not a change in position.
